We have just got back to our hotel in Kyoto. We are 12 hours ahead in Japan and it is 5 to 9 in the evening, so you are about to start the last stage. We will stay on line for reports. I doubt you will blog until tomorrow as you will be celebrating and taking it easy. So we are thinking of you and cheering you on over the final finish line. Fantastic effort. We have just looked through the photos from stage 5 and found you. Lots of love Ellen, Paul and Amy xxx

We are all following your amazing progress and and in awe of your achievements. I hope that by the time you read this message you will have finished!!!!

Truly amazing, a stunning achievement, well done! Not only have you made it but to be comfortably within the top 20 out of over 100 competitors is incredible. Some of the guys ahead of you have run it several times before (I read quite a few profiles!) and you were a first timer, so great result. Also an achievement (from looking at the reports and other peoples blogs) not to have to retire from injury. The terrain was so tough anyone at any time could have been retired out. One guy had to retire a good way into stage 5, that must have been really tough to have almost made it and to have been capable mentally and physically but an injury stops you. So you got the balance right; determination, strength, endurance, pace and a sprinkling of luck not to get injured. We are very proud of you! I won't be able to get my fix of watching your progress and getting updates once the race is over, I will really miss that. It makes me feel I can do more. We are just packing up to get the bullet train to Kyoto so I will check in after the final stage. When I checked here last night in Japan there were no pictures up of stage 5 still, so we will enjoy looking through those. A great achievement by everyone, you must have made some lasting friendships. Love from Ellen, Paul and Amy xxxx

You have done yourself proud and made us feel some of that because we know you - well done, my son ♡♡♡ God bless and safe return home, Mum xxx

Great performance and doing yourself proud. Sprint finish against 14 with a lunge for the line tomorrow - ha ha that's easy for me to say lazing on the sofa. Smash the last 8 - there's beer and pizza to get you across the line. See you safely back soon.

Thanks everyone for the messages, gives me a real boost at the end of the stage. Especially needed it today. Basically an incredibly tough day at the office. Nearly 30 miles with about 20 over the salt flats and frozen broccoli in the baking heat.

Really struggled with the heat and going to have

13th overall, well done. Make the most of the rest before the final stage. You are incredible. Everyone at the club last night was in awe of your achievements, although our hill run paled into insignificance compare to your accomplishments.

Lesley Beaumont

Such a long haul - you've done overnight before but from searing heat to cold nighttime desert would be weird all in one run? Maybe being cooler helped with the later stages? Whatever, what do we know, just awestruck by your achievement so far. You are so strong to be there. God bless ♡

Wow wow amazing Jeremy, love clicking on seeing how you are getting on, amazing stuff in that heat too. All that training has paid off, you are smashing it, which I knew you would. Well done.

Ellen Bloomfield

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 12:10 pm

Well done!!! Understatement of the year! We are 13 hours ahead of you so by the time we get back into our cabin in the evening, you are just starting out on the next stage so may not get our message. I was woken up at 4am this morning by a cacophony of kookaburras laughing their heads off and I lay awake for ages thinking about you as I knew you were running across the desert at that very moment. An unbelievable feat of endurance. We fly to Japan in the morning so I may not be able to send a message after your next stage (your today), but you have plenty of messages from others so you won't miss ours. I will be thinking of you as we fly through the air and you are running across the desert a few thousand feet below us. Lots of love Ellen, Paul and Amy xxxx

Vince (aka Bambi)

Crazy what your body can do with a mind that wills it on. We're all in awe at what 'that bloke that runs with us' is doing. Keep the mind and will strong and the body will keep doing. But keep safe and healthy as well. Scenery is awesome and well jealous of you for that (but only that Lol). Remember everyone willing you on when it feels like it's too hard. Oh and remember to keep a little back for the sprint finish tomorrow!!! Good luck today mate.

Steve Hookins

I guess lots struggled as you didn't drop much in the overall placings. Heat was always going to be really hard - you work off Norway! To stick to it and get there was brilliant and I bet food and a lie down felt great, even though it's not 5★ accommodation. We are all willing you on to success 'cos we know you can do it. Go with love Mum & Rod ♡♡♡

Liam Lindon

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 06:16 am

Well you never said it would be easy hey mate! Dig deep today you well over halfway now and after today you just have a mere 10k to go before beer and pizza... slow and steady is the order of today you are on the home stretch! Keep going we are all backing you!

Hey champ, looks too dry for my liking! Awesome mate, this is where all that treadmill training, pack carrying malarkey has got you, leave it all out there, you only 50 once, soak it up and don’t hold back (well maybe keep a smidgeon for long day!), remember to scream ‘yippee’ when you go belting down the dunes!

I can't believe how quickly this has come around!
I feel I am nearly ready though. A 34 mile Ultra over Dartmoor last weekend final testing of hydration/electrolyte strategy - fortunately it was a really hot day so a good test and am happy with it. This weekend is a SW coast path marathon (Exeter-Torbay) in full kit + backpack. Run that reasonably comfortably and in a decent time and I will be happy.
All kit and food checked off, everything booked!
