You are an inspiration to us all MB. It just goes to show what you can achieve when you put your mind to it! Jolly well done to you (and everyone else who took part). An amazing result to finish in the 40's for such a tough race (and your first one to boot!). Put your feet up and enjoy the rest of your 'holiday'. Looking forward to seeing the pics soon.

Virtual high five for your efforts thus far my friend! That drilling malarkey sounds rancid! Loving Mr R's choice of games, but they would not be complete without the addition of our old favourite - Central Ops Song of the Day. We have already started you off (loving your Mums suggestions), so I'll leave you with the topic of 'feet'. Whilst scanning through the pics, one called 'forgotten something?' caught my eye, just hoping it was not you this time! All the best for the next stage.

So drilling through your own toe nails or listening to Robs training program..... Keep drilling soldier! As the next few days sound like they will be long I have taken the liberty of creating some games to pass the time, feel free to share them with your fellow runners. 1 - I spy. I worry this may mainly consist of "rock" "sand" "broccolli" but you never know 2 - Word association. Just think mallets mallet, if nothing else the though of Timmy Mallet (that is his real name - fact) will be amusing but may not translate well 3 - My favourite type of..... This can be food stuffs (potatoes & eggs come in many forms so they may be a good place to start) or other items such as favourite type of cloud 4 - A-Z. Taking it in turn to name things is always fun. Top tip Q is letter 17 and the first real tricky one! I hope that this helps you pass the hours and there is no need to thank me, it was my pleasure! Have fun and keep drilling (I am in Italy at the moment so not sure trephination will translate) Keep up the good work!

Love your blogs Mart. Hope you and Janine endured the long slog on stage 5. Not long now, forget your personal worsts you are the BEST. Go go go......try to focus on that lovely glass of wine and a proper meal. A few tunes to keep you going I've thought of are:- sunny afternoon and the sun has got his hat on(a real ear worm). Enough of sunshine as you are on the homeward stretch how's about Singing in the rain, lazy Sunday afternoon to bring you into U.K. Mode. Will try to fit trephine into one of our games when we next play , good one that. Remember we are all behind you (in spirit) . Look forward to your next blog. Xx

Bravo on another stage done, old chap! Haven't been able to bring myself to look at the pictures yet in case I inadvertently see some bloodied toes but it sounds mostly beautiful. While you're running through the Salt Flats, why not amuse yourself by remembering Montezuma and the Death Valley on our family holiday? Good luck against that broccoli. Px

Not entirely sure what happened to the rest of my post - it was there when I pressed the 'comment' button once (unlike Ms Tuner who clearly got a bit too trigger happy!) I was going to say that a Morecame and Wise pose would be epic. Back to the (hopefully not lost again iPod) - some song suggestions to play in between Abba and Tom Jones: Cicle in the Sand, anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Keep on Running.. Best of luck for the next stage MB.

Phew, that stage looked gruelling but great on the pics. Interesting photo of Charles plastered toes!! Good one of you and Janine. I don't think I will feel the same way about broccoli again though. I'm with Paul we could do with a few Morecombe and Wise poses please. Remember the old saying "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". I know groan groan!! Good luck on the next stage. X

Wow what an amazing stage. The photographs of you and Janine on the dunes are fantastic and oh how different your days are to those back here. Its is very grey here but we do at least have fully hydrated food and of course the day is revolving around key issues like who will win the Great British Bake off tonight (surely it has to be Nadiya?). Anyway thinking of you as you progress through stage 4 - which looks amazing by the way. Hope the feet are holding up ahead of the long march tomorrow and can't wait to hear how the stage 4 went xxxx

Well first of all I am please that I was not the only one to post my comments more than once, i just feel sad when you see so many comments and realise they are all the same. First of all I must take you task on running on frozen broccolli. I am pretty sure that nobody in the history of running has ever used such an analogy so well done that man. Going sounds tough (broccolli aside)however the pictures do look amazing but like Ali I would like a would to see you strike a pose for one. Think morecombe and wise bring me sunshine. Good luck in the next couple of days sounds pretty tough going however make sure you keep some energy back for our key sporting triathalon on the 29th! P

Well that was a pretty tough day! Just over 27 miles in just under 8 hours for a finish in 41stposition. Not sure that I have had many more challenging runs to be honest - at one point, I left my ipod at a checkpoint and had to run back to get it and then lost an ear bud! This debacle and some minor niggles cost me a few places but it was always going to be a game of high highs and low lows.....

Some absolutely stunning scenery though running through rivers in canyons and along a high ridge overseeing San Pefro with the Andes in the background and then down a massive sand dune. Great fun but the last 15k or so was through salt flats that gave way every time you put your foot down

Wow - sounds like you are doing a fab job - keep it up! Hmmmm... Not like you to lose things is it... I'm struggling to find the picture titled 'Martin Burton runs back to find his lost iPod', but there are some great captions on there. However, I'm slightly disappointed that the one I found of you is titled ''Martin Burton of the United Kingdom'. Your mission (as if you did not already have enough to worry about), is to get a more interesting caption against your pic. Guessing we will be seeing much more of these ones 'more sandy terrain', 'taking the sand out of the shoes', 'kicking up the sand' and 'awesome landscape'! Best of lust for the next stage - we are all rooting for you!

Well done on day 2 sir, sounds pretty horrendous I think I will just stick with park runs which does has the occasional muddy puddle so I can feel your pain. As for your iPod, imagine the surprise of the locals listening to your modern "no music past 1999 thank you" play lists, could have sparked a revival of the happy Monday's! Today to keep the life comparison going I am sat in rainy terminal 5 awaiting a delayed flight to Italy. Flying BA but at least I know my meal choice will be ok. Enjoy day 3 and keep up the good work.

Hey you well done on completing stage 2. It looked really tough in places the sand dune did make me think of Jordon. Can't believe you forgot your iPod but hopefully you remembered it before you had gone too far. Take care and good luck with stage 3 xxxxx

Day one in the desert done! Think I finished around 35thwhich is not too bad considering I did not really know what I had let myself in for...

It was pretty hot by the end with the last stretch on a seemingly never-ending hill which was at stark contrast from the freezing temperatures that we had last night in the tent! Stunning setting for the run though, through canyons and across desolate plains where a crystal meth lab would not look out of place!

So, tomorrow is a harder stage apparently, with river crossings and a bit longer at 27ish miles. But all in all, not bad so far - no blisters (yet) and currently sat in an open air cybertent in camp at the foot of volcanoes in the Andes

If anyone is actually reading this, hope that you are all good back in Blighty!

WELL DONE SIR! I have looked through the pictures but I cannot spot you as yet, what I can spot is a lot of desert. To put your current location into context I am sat at my desk and if I look left I can see the rain falling outside. Loving the breaking bad reference, if you could hide a box set/great movie reference in each post this reader for one would be happy! Good luck tomorrow mate, guessing emergency gin was not part of your essentials pack!! P

So after a few days taking in the beauty of Chile, it is nearly time for the briefing and ride to the start point.
