9.8 KM today to complete the official 250 km Friday was a good recovery day for me and in the morning I decided to run the final stage of 9.8 km .I begged our tentmate Ash (an 8 time Atacama participant in the top 20) to be my official personal pacer. We managed to complete the course in 48 minutes with no hurdles .... Sandy was at the finish line and handed me the official finisher medal ... We had a fantastic week, isolated from our daily lives, and feel we have re energized ourselves ! I finished 62nd overall ... 8th in my age group another good line on my sport accomplishement resume . Back to Victoria tomorrow around 16 hours journey ...

Sandy did not start the long march…her blister were too serious caused by sand with wrong shoes I was disappointed …..but there is no point suffering the goal is to have an enjoyable experience.
I enjoyed myself and completed stage 5 & 6 around 14 hours back in camp at 10 pm was a real treat I promised Sandy not to hurt or injured myself , it was all about food intake, power walking , mental game and ….advil….the course director design the race like a boot camp:
We climbed a 200 meters dune deep sand up to 35 degree, let you walk through water in the salt desert …
Today is rest day , I will finish my book I have kept with me all the time tearing off the pages read to save weight !
Tomorrow is only 8 km , I look forward going back home and work .
Thank you all for your messages !

Day 3 done! It was really hard but we both finished. Sand, sand, sand, heat and hard crusty salt flats. Climbed a huge dune, actually we crawled on all fours! Sandy has two feet full of blisters but is hoping to sleep it off. Another long day of 42 km under 40 degree heat tomorrow. It is all unbelievably difficult but hope we will both pull through. Best part is getting back to our tentmates each day. It

Here's hoping after a good night's sleep and some feet pampering your blisters are healing. I tried commenting yesterday but have no idea where it went (one of the mysteries of internet). We're off to Lac le Jeune so will have to wait until you are home to hear about the rest of the trek. I'll be thinking of you both while away. We're all impressed with you.

After all these months you're finally there and I'm rooting for you both. Haven't heard from Julian so assuming all is well with Toddy. Trying to come up with a name for the new addition - Hettie? Harley? it has to go with Hector. Keep strong and sleep well.

We arrived in San Pedro de Atacama. Very, very dry. Very, very barren. We spend the day exploring and checking out the terrain. Going to be very, very challenging. Right now we're going through our packs again and again trying every single way to keep it as light as possible - cutting off corners on packaging, shortening ties, shortening straps, counting everything out, every gram saved will keep our backs happy! Check-in is tomorrow morning then we set off for Camp 1. So far, all's good. Trying to stay calm......will keep you all posted!

Take care of your poor blistered feet, Sandy. I don't know how the 2 of you manage in the heat and sand (more power to you). We're heading up to Lac le Jeune on Friday so won't be able to check in on your progress until we get home. Looking forward to hearing all about your experience.

After talking with my mother in Marseille , I think I figured a formula I need for the race :1 gram =1 calories .... however something must be wrong my bag is way too heavy ...shall I take away the foie gras or the saucisson ? Drink is another issue which Digestif to take to forget the electrolyte taste before bed time ?
