Another rough day completed....YIPEE!!!! This has been an extremely hard race. Today was pretty slow for me but I think I finished the stage number 25.....somehow. Today we started up a steep sand dune and ended up just before the first checkpoint sliding down a big dune and running through a stream and then through a little village. From there it turned into a very tough day as we had to go through a never ending(at least it seemed that way) salt flat. People were running out of water and the temps we quite high again.

I have slowed quite a bit as my body is taking a beating and I am not alone. Unfortunately today my good buddy Paul pulled out of the race. He has had a rough time and the heat really got to him yesterday. In fact, at one of the checkpoints he had to have an IV. Get this, even after the IV Paul pulled it together and finished the stage in the dark. Hats off to Paul he is quite the trooper.

Getting kicked off the computer so hope everyone is well. Tomorrow is the long stage and I just hope I can make it to the finish. Miss everyone!!!!

This is the toughest race to date for me. The race director told me this morning that today was going to be very mentally challenging and she was right. The morning started off with a march through dry salt flats and each step in a "salt mound" produced this puff of lovely salt dust; this went on for about 4km. The rest of the day was extremely difficult as we had to cross about 10 km of a different kind of salt flat. This one had these really nasty razor sharp salt mounds that seemed to go on forever. It was really tough going and if one would happen to fall you would probably get sliced up pretty bad. From there we really had a long slog to camp. Also, at this point the temps were very high and folks were really struggling. Between the last checkpoint and camp we had to cross several large sand dunes and traverse a rock canyon.

Jesus Jack! That sounds super tough! Hang in there. I would have emailed earlier but the lunch service at the club was slow today. Just kidding of course, you know we wouldn't eat while you suffered. Take care of the feet and take tommorrow one step at a time, you'll make it. You are one tough hombre!

Hi Everyone: I finished Stage 2 today and I am hanging in there. The day started with a beautiful run in a slot canyon that required several water crossings. The water was just about freezing so it took a bit for my tootsies to warm up. Just as I could feel my feet again another cold water crossing was in order. From there we headed up a steep canyon to a ridgeline that went on

First Stage is under my belt and today was a difficult start to a long week. Just to back up for a second, very few of us got much sleep as it was very extremely cold last night as temps plummeted after sunset and reached a low of 10 degrees. The race started today at 11,000 feet and we pretty much

As the race grows closer and the nerves start checking in, I wonder how it is that I am even here. The truth be told I am held together with shoestrings and bubble gum. For those that know my story you know what I am talking about. For those of you just checking in for the first time, I won

Dude, training with you has been a blast. With all the miles we used to drive on road trips chasing snakes, I bet we will fast be approaching as many miles just running. I have personally seen your "recovery" from your injury. You are an inspiration to many. Keep it going and I am hooked too. We have many more adventures ahead. Woop Woop, H

Jack - good to see you can still write dude. Looking forward to seeing all the old boys and new friends in Atacama. You'll do great mate - just remember to keep my place warm in the tent :) And Kakster, if you have seen Paul without his "box" on, you would definitely not want to hide them from him :) GGGK
