Team Feelfit weasels aka team feelshit, arrived in san pedro on friday almost exactly on schedule. we were extremely lucky to have no problems getting despite the massive earthquake. the people here seem to be coping remarkebly with the situation despite the devastation. I sat next to a young guy on the flight to Calama who was returning to his home for the first time since the quake ....or rather returning to a pile of rubble which is all that remains. his attitude to his situation was amazing and humbling that he could still smile and be positive despite losing everything.

we are all packed and i am happy with my bag as it is about 5 or 6 kg lighter than the last time i did a race like this. just over 9kg or 10kg with water.

we leave soon for camp and start tomorrow morning. the sun is nasty and i have been told light skin burns in 4 minutes without protection. so the feelfit crew have just stocked up with sunscreen and our ready to go.

spirits are high and jovial but i am sure once the reality of what we are about to put ourselves through will hit home once in camp tonight.

thank you to my lovely fiance cheryl for arranging out travel to get here.
we are sad that good friends Adam and Blain and scottie did not make the trip but i am sure we will race together again one day

hopefully blog after stage one tomorrow, if not no news is good news

stuart aka ceaser teh dog whisperer.....my new name as i seem to attract all the local stray dogs wherever i go.....maybe i can get on eof them to carry my bag for me on the run.....

Have fun Stu! No need to wish you luck as you have such a "dogged" determination (maybe thats why the strays are attracted to you!) that you will finish even if you have to crawl on your hands and knees! The 800's I'm off to do pale in comparison to your efforts. The sun sounds scary thoguh so make sure you reapply sunscreen regularly - it will sweat off very quickly! Kia Kaha! (see if there's a kiwi around to translate for you) xxx.

Hello Fiance! Thinking of you now as its only 45 minutes until you start this mammoth challenge. Know that I am with you every step of the way, and thinking of you every second of the day. Be careful and enjoy it. Make sure you put enough sun cream on, burning after 4 seconds, that could seriously hurt. I love you. xx

ARE WE THERE YET?

The Feelfit weasels are leaving in 3 days time to start the long journey to San Pedro. All being well we will arrive late friday night giving us plenty of time ( one whole day) to acclimatise for the start of the race.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with the people of Chile and hopefully with the race going ahead some money can be raised to help support all those who need it.

I have set up this blog so that anyone who wants to contact me during the event can leave messages of support, or abuse, that hopefully I will be able to check each evening.

I am looking forward to getting started and meeting up with old Sahara race friends.
