Things got really tough for me straight away in the long march... the calf pain I'd felt in stage 4 got worse, and with a long stretch over some rough terrain up to the first checkpoint I was really struggling.

In packing for this trip I had diligently followed all the advice about not trusting your checked luggage to arrive in Chile, and had poured a lot of energy into packing everything I could into my carry on luggage to avoid as much pre-race drama as possible.

Oh no Jenny! Keep us updated on the progress as it happens. Also let me know what key kit you don't have - preparing for the worst. Food can be managed and basics can be beg, borrowed or bought. Shoes, sleeping bag and clothing are the most difficult to replace (they can be, but are items that are better to be your own and are more expensive). Fingers crossed that the flights takes off.

Jenny and Tia, Remember your dental floss, take some REALLY BIG sunglasses (oh, Jenny, I see you have some already, wow, you're very well covered), look both ways when you're crossing the roa....desert thing, if you find Kay Reddy in your bag (oh, sorry, there's nothing in the manual for that) and remember you're champions. And don't speak to strangers - probably not that fair for them, they don't know you. Good luck amazing ladies, everyone will be thinking of you. You're legends. Ray

Jenny - you have exactly the right attitude to this race. Go out and enjoy it - take it easy on Stage 1 and see what happens then start considering it as a race on on Stage 2. I have added your charity to your profile and love the idea of donating songs - shame about "the sun has got his hat on".
