Can I just say that I LOVE that you were singing Christmas Carols!!!! What an incredible achievement... and what I also LOVE is that you described that 70km as an 'amazing day'!!! 70km in 14 hours... I cannot even begin to comprehend. I truly wish I had your strength and determination, Heather. Completely inspiring.

You are amazing!!! So sorry to hear about your injury--I hope you are able to get through the final push with little to no pain. You are incredible!! I think I will treat you to AS MANY milkshakes that you would like from No Milkshake No Life upon your return!! I would be singing and planning food right along with you--you are so close! Love you friend and see you soon! Keep it up!!

You did it, yay!! So sorry to hear about the injury and nausea. But you are so near the end I bet you can taste that burger minus glutens maximus!! And what the hell, splash out on vanilla, chocolate AND strawberry milkshakes. Who cares if your belly can't take it at the airport; you've been through so much worse! So proud of you!! See you soon! Well here I go again. I have sent perhaps five notes and it seems not a bloody one was received by you from what I can see. Don’t know what the hell is going on as I never had this happen before. Maybe I’m on a “no blog list” something like a “no fly list” Oh well , sorry to here about your problems Honey, but you toughed through it. Damn you give us great pride. Had my teeth checked today and the chap who did it was from Tanzania and I showed him your pic from Kilimanjaro he was really surprised. Mabel had her heart surgery today and came through it well. Momma is staying with her in hospital tonite. I’m keeping this short as I hate to write a long not only to have it not get to you AGAIN!!! Keep on runnin and keep looking at the moon as I will be also. Love you to that moon and back. Xoxoxo love Daddy co

Sending TONS of vomit-free vibes your way, Heather! Keep up the stubborn-ness - you are frigging AMAZING. Go, go, go! You got this. No question.

Ah... I just saw this now! I have been sending messages through the mail system. This is awesome we get know how you are! The food thing sucks! I couldn't do what you are doing now. I admire your determination and stubbornness (at least this time)! I am hoping your food stays down and just know that the hunters are going through the same challenges you are! The challenge is enough but we all know how much like to win! Give them hell Jabs!

Bisous from the Shortts. Can't wait to hear all about it. Still got weather in HK.... thinking of you.

Liz D

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 11:45 am

Well, that's gross. I'm sorry to hear about the vomit- here you were worried about the chaffing and then you had to go start puking on top of it. And you still kept going. Because you are the baddest ass in town, my friend. Peeling skin and starvation can't keep you down. I haven't a faint clue how you keep doing what you do but I am so pumped for you to keep doing it. Love you sweets- chin up, poles down- you GOT this!!!! Keep going. P.S. In your honor, I will not eat a grilled cheese sandwich until you've crossed the finish line. Hey- it's the least I can do ;)

Monica Jacobs

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 11:45 am

Wait!! Only part of my comment posted. It may be a long shot but there’s an acupressure point for nausea: in the middle of the inner forearm, 2 1/2 finger widths below the wrist crease. I hope you found some relief today! You’re amazing.

Monica Jacobs

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 11:35 am

Oh Stem... I’m sorry you’re feeling so rotten, but you still have this race!

Kelly Throne

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 10:36 am

Ugh, I've been there...literally :-(. I know you can do this (actually by the time you get this it will be DONE), even without the click click click of your poles to follow!! Wish I was there to repay the favor but know I'm there in spirit. Hope you got and kept stuff down, and better yet made it to camp in time for a full rest day. Love the stubborn comment, I'll never look at William the same again.

Eileen J

I promise to make you all the GF grilled cheeses you can eat when you come back!!!

Melissa Kinsinger

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 10:18 am

One of the (many) reasons why you're so awesome is because you're stubborn. Ah... dedicated? Determined? Unshakable? Persistent? However you call it, YOU GOT THIS. You're amazing.

Diane Williams Briere

Posted On: 05 Oct 2017 03:40 am

My sweet girl... you keep that tenacity, and I so hope that tomorrow is a much better feel good day. I'm so sorry that you had sickness today. I think you need a giggle so here goes. I've been keeping granny posted and tonight, after reading of what your day tomorrow will involve, I said "granny, just take a guess on how many km Heather will race tomorrow, and think big". After a very looong pause, granny said in all ernesty... 14 km!!!!! Ahahahaha don't we just love granny!! And she can't wait to write her own personal message to you on Friday! You're rocking this sweetheart, just as you're sure to rock tomorrow. You are the strongest girl I know, I am so very very proud! All your friends and family (and that's a very big circle) are behind you. Brian sends his love and support. Right now working too many hours to send a personal note, so asked me to pass this along. Love you tons and more. Xxxxoxxooooo

Salt?! Pft! You eat salt for breakfast! Ha-one time that strange line actually works. Hope the March was tremendous today. Who cares what place you're in or wether you're hunting or hunted...you're still moving forward and that's what counts. You have the inner strength of a thousand lions, tap in and tune out. And Go Stem Go!!!!

Kelly Throne

Keep it up, dig in for the salt flats, you've sooooo got this!! Hope your awesome (but not as awesome as Ecuador ;-) tentmates are also quiet sleepers! How's the tummy? We were spelling 'crash' yesterday and I was corrected: H is for Heather, not horse. Waiting for the next awesome update. XOXOXO

I’ve always loved your use of “awesome”. And that is precisely what you are, my sweet girl... but for this race, going to change that to my .. tough girl. Interested to hear of your run on the salt flats part. Can’t wait to check on your blog tonight. Love you this much. xoxo

Just keep running, just keep running....and eating... and sleeping!! Well done on the pack weight, you're doing the gear planning next time. Glad you've still got your enthusiasm, which will serve you better than anything else right now ;-) Dunes......ugh...and why do you do the super windy races without me? Thank you!!! Hotel kids pool amazeballs, have lost track of William several times when he's found pack of boys to run with. Definitely my kind of vacation. He was singing your name the other day so he must be thinking of you too. Stay strong Hugs from Hua Hin

Stem, you are amazing me, keep it going strong. So are you on a holiday break? You crazy girl, didn't anyone tell you that you should take a break when on vacation? Please don't tell me you will be teaching a couple days after this race? Remember rugby game days our last year? Fire starter! I remember us going over the bridge singing our hearts out before that Nova Scotia final. Dig deep girl. That day I looked across the field and I had to play against the biggest scariest wing ever. I decided I may just die winning that day. You got that Acadia undefeated rugby blood in you. Dig deep and run like hell. Xo

Hey my sweet girl... can hardly wait to read of day 3! You're the best! You rock!! You rule!!! Your spirit and enthusiasm are always out there in front. Having tea (wish you were here!) and thinking of you lots. Picking granny up on Thursday, and will certainly be reading her your blogs and comments in the evening. I'll direct her on sending you a note.... she'll love that! Okay, my girl, keep running like the wind, you so have this covered!! Love you enormously. xxoo

A little reminder to all who post here for Heather to read... Eventhough posted on Facebook (Heather won't be looking at Facebook throughout her race), please do not talk of her placement in the daily runs. She likes to be surprised after the race is complete. Thank you all!

So I think it's day 3 now? Whichever day it is YOU MADE IT!!!!!! Your dad posted a great pic of you standing with your purple jacket on. It was like I was right there at basecamp with you. (putting gas in the car to drive beside you of course, not actually running). Also, remember what Walter Elliot said, "Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other." I don't know if he was crazy enough to run across desserts but he has an excellent point and if you're reading this then you clearly made it through the next stage because you are amazing!!! Rest well and kick tomorrow's ass xoxox
