Gidday to all, well we survived the night, captain and crew did a great job in getting ahead of the storm now we are anchored in the Beagle Channel and will stop here for the night before we push for docking early in the morning.

We are all looking forward to the banquet tonight, we saw some whales today, they were close to the boat and put on a nice blow, ha. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures tonight.

I have mixed emotions at present, all of us are wanting to get off the ship now and begin to pack down our adventure, digest it, and return home. Most are getting off the boat onto a bus and taken straight to the airport, only a few of us remain at Ushuaia ,

Lewis, thank you for your words, they meant a lot, as have all of the messages from home, crazy to think that we were so isolated yet could still communicate, it ain't called the cybertent for nothing I suppose.

So a huge thanks to all that have supported and assisted me to get here and have this amazing unique adventure

10 November 2014 01:32 am (GMT+12:00) Auckland, Wellington

Well we had a great night last night, everyone celebrated, even the crew which was awesum, even got to sleep in……it still hasn’t sunk in that I have done it, and completed all 4…..

The crossing thus far is brilliant, clear skies and beautiful sea……………however this is all about to change with a big storm that we will have to sail into.

I have been up whale watching, well looking – have seen a couple this am.

The banquet tomorrow night will seal the deal and I will get to see the photo slideshow, and relive this experience. I am still humbled by it all, it still seems like a dream, can’t believe it.

I am starting to pack my things so that there are less missiles in our cabin.  12 hours plus of crappy weather… we have been warned.

Cant wait to get home now.

Love to al xxxxx and heaps of hugs

09 November 2014 10:02 am (GMT+12:00) Auckland, Wellington

Omg, it is over, done, dusted…..I feel quite strange, I am very happy somewhat emotional, elated, disbelieving………

As you are aware the weather depicts our path, we were unable to do anything yesterday and the captain and crew busted their buts trying to find places for us to run…..this place will decide what it will allow us to do.

We have been to some awesum places and believe me it is really hard to run here, for many reasons. So not many kms clocked up but that is the way it goes.

For the last lap today I dawdled and took the time to appreciate where I was, what I had done….yes I did pick up rocks, marvelled at the scenery, hugged and cheered on other competitors…..

Crossing the finish line was crazy, who would have thought, I didn’t, that I would have completed all 4 Deserts. Many thanks to all who have helped me on this mission.

Bex, your chocolate coated coffee beans were my secret weapon today, they were the last thing I ate…but the first thing I packed.

We are all in good spirits here, but we all know this journey is coming to an end soon…..I have taken a few photos, but the most amazing pictures are in my head, they are the constant thoughts of my family, love you all heaps and cant wait to see you all again soon.

Will post a post race blog once I have digested this more ……

Well what a day we had today,,one very long hill in zig zag, but when go to the top

Hey Megs, wow what an adventure, looks bloody cold but. Sorry for not posting much, will make more effort now I am back in Aus. Went to Singapore on Tues and spoke at International Methanol Producers conference. 200 leaders from the industry reduced to tears, had CEO of Marathon Oil give me a massive hug just blown away with our story and the work we are doing. Talk is they are going to up the budget for us next year so are now madly pulling together funding proposals etc. Lhani is still in Bali/Lombok, she had big workshop in Bali yesterday morning at BIMC Hospital, really excited by how far they have come, now seeing hospitals pulling together and working with us to lobbing Health department to approve ethanol treatment, way cool. Then she meet with British Consulate who are going to do an awareness campaign for pommy tourist travelling to Indo. Today she is in Lombok for full day workshop at main public hospital, back to Bali tonight for meeting tomorrow and Monday. Feedback from Community education program is that the Arak traders are now pushing the producers to cut the methanol out during distallation as they are getting push back from the bars that there have been to many poisonings and that patrons are asking alot of questions about where the alcohol is going from and if it is safe, thats pretty cool. Hope its all going well and you are safe. Lov Tim PS, I hear Penny has been so inspired by your desert racing that she has started training herself......she's now walking to the letterbox to get the mail......samll beginnings eh ;)

hi there, this is Ed from way back when, Atacama Tent 111. Just want to say its fantastic you're just days away from completing The Last Desert race, I'm very jealous to say the least. Getting there is half the battle and then having to accept you might spend as much time on the floating campsite / ship as you do running on land is just all part of the equation! Good luck with the rest of the race and say hello to the Strathans for me. Awesome effort!

I think they have the aircon turned down really low so that your brother and I get a little understanding or your fresh conditions. The penguin sound like characters and I get a vision of the place through your description. So happy Liam is hanging with you and keeping you company. Perhaps you should ask him to make something unusual happen in dull hard moments. Loves and hugs xxxx ps keep the posts coming. Xxxxxooooo

Hey out there! Day two on the Drake and she is pretty rock and roll. We all laugh at each others various stances during a traverse from one area to the other. Lots of laughing.

Rocked to sleep last night. Nice. Found it easier to wear tracks to increase the friction and stop me from moving up and down the bed ha ha.

Seen lots of birds, had great lectures, saw some whales blowing this morning. Awsum.

The meals are fantastic, and all is good. Haven

30 October 2014 01:47 am (GMT+12:00) Auckland, Wellington

gidday all from the bottom of the world!!
Well i got here in one piece, but was shattered.....to long cramped in planes.....my knees are still sore from being folded up like some random insect in a cocoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This place is very nice, great hotel with awesum staff................shame i dont understand them, nor they me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. so the game at the moment is sherades!!!!!, however not as bad as in China at Gobi having to make pig noises to see if they had bbq pork on menu, man that was funny, ha!!...and they thought i meant chicken, only those at the table can really understand this!
Yesterday was really hot and a tee shirt surficed, however this morning woke to snow..............biggest snow flakes i have ever seen........sooo cool, excuse the pun!!
Well final prep now, getting gear sorted for the last time, it is so hard to get the right balance of layers as it is soo changeable, the mandatory list helps, however my preference differs so must be sure to get it right.
Have done no training, lots of walking around tho, hope to go into national park tomorro for a bit of a trott, been eating heaps though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! opps!
Missing family heaps, thinkin ov you all, big hugs. happy birthday Mike Stewart, the big 30 mate, you old now....which makes us even older, have a great party dude . Congrats to Andy Cronin , mate and heli crewman for TRHT, and his wife on the birth of their son, well done!, playmate for Archie.
Cheers to Blair and the team at Mitchells cycles for my suppliments, feel like the drug lord getting them all sorted into bags!!!!
Taranaki Huntin and Fishing, cheers Shay and the team for getting my sealskin socks, they are going to be gold!
I am feeling good,... numb, excited,  but not scared...yet!! Love to you all xxxx megs

22 October 2014 08:28 am (GMT+12:00) Auckland, Wellington

So, where do I start???.....probably with " playin in the sand pit", alias Sahara 2010. My first RTP event and i swore it would be the last...with munted feet, I survived and returned home with 4 toenails !!!.........I think that some of that sand got stuck in my head as i then went on to " marching on mars", alias the Atacama in 2012. After being sandblasted in the sand storm and then stalked by the most amazing forked lightening, which was bombing me mere meters away, .....i could hardly not do the Gobi in 2013!. the amazing thing about these RTP events is that they get into your head and under your skin..........i never contemplated that i could, should or would participate in the last desert, and now this adventure is just days away!
Training is not going as it should, i have done more miles in research mode than i have done in kms, a bit of an obsessive aspect perhaps!, running with my clothes on, ha, you know what I mean!, is more difficult than i thought as i get too hot!!
So I am not a competitor but a participant, and this is not a race but a journey!!!!
None of this would be possible without the love and support of my family, Granny and Grandfather, you always believe in me and help me to fulfill my dreams, thank you soooo much. Cam , sorry but your exams have to come first, would have been awesum to have you come with me, you will be with me all the way though in my thoughts. Penny and Tim, I hope that you both have been training hard for the upcoming blog comment challenge that you always enjoy sooo much!!! ha,
SWAZI,, a kiwi apparell company have provided me with some amazing kit, i will soo proudly wear this gear. SWAZI gear is what i wear on all of my search and rescue missions, and they are massively supportive of NZ Land SAR - cheers to jamie and the team for your amazing support..............
Frontrunner NP, Kelvin and the team have exceeded themselves again buy sourcing my shoes and getting them in for me - you guys rock and i thank you for supporting me over the years.
Kiwi Outdoors, Rob and the team are always interested in my adventures, they also support SAR and have given me significant help on this project, cheers for the discount dudes,,,,,,more on this story later!
Macpac NP store have also assisted in kit, cheers guys for your help!
Penny at Envirofur will ensure I am nice and warm with their local possum products! hello possums!!!! Ha
Lisa at Stars travel made smart work of my travel arrangements, cheers chick and thanks heaps
To all of my friends and colleagues, ambo's, Taranaki Rescue heli crew, police, fire, fellow gym goers, and the crew at Box office Boxing club, cheers for your thoughts, hugs to ya all!
Cheers, megs

Hey Nickers, I excited to see you have got in first for the "Blog 2014 Extravaganza", orsum that you have worked out how to use your Ipad and are becoming techno savy....as for winning the race I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself....its only taken 3 desert races for you to get your act together, even with me deliberately not posting so you could go first ;>~. I must admit that I'm a little confused with your assimilation to hoofed animals......are you saying I have a heart like a horse, the intelligence of bovine (pig are very intelligent), and are as strong as an ox, I guess thats a compliment, thanks. Love to both my blisters, let the games begin, good luck Big Brother (also favourite child)

Hey there little sister, wow this is totally cool. Not only are Kiwi's taking over Australia but now were off to take over the Antartic, wicked. You motivation, drive and endevour are truely inspirational. Here's something for you to think about when the going gets tuff......In life there are 2 types of people, valley dwellers and mountain climbers. Valley dwellers sit at home with thier nice warm fires, hot food, they hope that nothing changes and are fearful of what lies beyond the mountains. Then there are mountain climbers who venture out into the unknown, those who seek new challenges and revel in the thrill of adventure. These people test themselves and find the true meaning of life, they let go of the material things and learn the value of simple treasures like family, friendship and love. They are worldly, yet humble, they embrace diversity and are the leaders in life. You are one of these people Megan. Your proud brother Tim
