Its hard to believe were that last two weeks went what an incredible experience. I look at the photos with almost disbelief that we have been to such an amazing place and in saying that I also remind myself that the pictures really don't do the place justice. I thank you all for sharing in the experience and will treasure the friendships we have made along the way. 

Col and I have spent  three days in Buenos Aires taking in the sights and reflecting on our journey. My surprises for Col was a heart ..... we get to share half each as a reminder of our completion of the 4 deserts.

Time to go home and plan other adventures.... until we meet again stay safe and happy training... Sandy

Two and half day trip accross the drake passage has so far not been as bad as on the way over. Still have my patch on for sea sickness and eating lots of ginger lollies. Feel a little sick but not too bad. Everyone is so looking forward to being back on land.

The awards baquet and presentation is tomorrow night when we start going through the Beagle channel and the waters are carmer. Also the Expedittion Guide is going to give us a journal on our trip and also said he would mark up a map for me so that is great.

Col and I have been talking about our experience and how different this event is from the other races... other than a few top competitors who are here to race...the race is more about the whole journey and the challenge in this one isn't so much the running but the coping with everything to get you to the start line of every stage. the sea sickness, the cold and constantly wondering how many layers to put on and I tell you if you get it wrong you suffer big time, the zodiac ride over and when you get to shore we mostly have had to plough through thick snow to get to the start line. You have to take a drop bag each day over with you incase we get stranded on shore and also you leave cloths to change into so you can get the zodiac back to the ship.

But in saying all that it has been a trip of a life time... so much to take in I almost feel strange heading back to Ushuaia.

Well the question keeps getting asked so whats next... oh there is lots of things on my list but at this point I want to enjoy every last minute of the incredible journey..

Damage to body is face got badly sunburnt especially lips .. Col did to only not as bad
Big toe nail dropping of as kicked and big chunk of ice and nearly fell
One toe with blood blister on in and two with blisters
Finger got stuck in door on ship have a great cut on it and all bruisesd

Hope no more things to add to list.. Ha ha ha ....clumsy person I am.... good night and should hopefully have phone service tomorrow............. thanks for all your wonderful words I am going back to read them again now means so much xxxx

P.S. have a surprise for Col but can't tell yet as he could read this blog and find out let you know tommorrow

OK Ice Queen and Ice Man. Icebergs? Check. Penguins? Check. Whales? Check? Storms? Check. One of the greatest love stories of all time? Absolutely. You see, maybe its about the Pyramids of Giza, the salt flats of the Gobi, or the altitude of the Atacama. Maybe, indeed, it is about those penguins as they slide in front of you with reckless abandon at Antarctica. But we know it's more than that. It's about the Sandy-Colin union. Well done Sandy and Col! What an inspiration, I can\'t tell you how much so. Makes me determined not to just read about these things but to attempt them one day. Can\'t believe you got to go to the Antarctic and see the things you would have seen, AND achieve a physical and mental goal like this while you\'re at it... so few people can claim either! Saying well done really just doesn\'t cut it :)

Good to hear that you are both back on the ship and completed the last desert safe and sound. Have been thinking of you both all week can't wait to see you both and hear all about it, see the pictures, Col's movie...... Enjoy the rest of your journey and see you when you get back.

Not sure when you will get this blog but as we are about to start the journey home 2 1/2 days across the drake passage I guess satelite coverage will come in soon. We have finished the race but not without the hiccups of the weather. The last I blogged I think i mentioned we had a sleep over and were on our last day of about 8 hours but as the ship pload through to get us to our place of landing to race we were hit by a storm thick snow covering the outside deck and visibility bad. After a briefing the decision was made to wait the next couple of hours to see if the storm would pass enough to get us on the Zodiac to finish what we started here. But if we have learnt one thing here things dont always go to plan the weather, ice conditions and wildlife make sure of that but that is what makes it all so different from anything else.

Well in short the weather just got worse and we moved to another location some hours away. It was still snowing but the wind had dropped a bit and visibility was better ...They quickly got us all together and told us to get ready we were going to start the last stage. A mad panic to get ourselves ready and on the Zodiac to shore. It was snowing a nice way to finish and the penguins joined us on the couse along the way it was a classic way to finish. They could only make a short looped course due to the conditions and the snow was as thick as .. When we started it was just fall in one hole after another constantly pulling your feet out of the snow. We would get into some kind of a run and then a whole lot of penguins would cross the paths and they have the right of way here so you would need to wait for them to pass... It was just the right way to finish really.. then finally the last lap around and iinto the checkpoint with Nahalia right behind me the both of us had formed a great bond during the race it was so nice. Medal around the neck and tears in the eyes... the cold and conditions had come close to beating me but they didnt and that feeling was victoriours..... I spotted Col so ran back up the track and together we came in the the checkpoint and shared in a great victory.... we did it... at that point didnt even feel cold...so so proud of my husband... and so so pleased to be finished. In the bitter coldnest we all celebrated what we had achieved and then back on the boat to celebrate some more...

Well results arent up here yet but I think I am equal second placed women with Nahalia which is so nice to share with her as we have bonded so nicely together. But what is more important is Col and I got to share this journey together one that will not fade for a long time in fact not ever...

This morning we were taken on a zodiac boat cruise for an hour to check out the icebergs and wildlife it was nice to complete the journey. Well I am ready to return home and see all the wonderful family and check in with friends. Happy birthday Matt 28 can't believe it but you are still my baby boy ha ha ha...love you have a great day talk soon . Well hope I survive the rough ride back but at this point nothing really matters as I reflect back on this amazing journey .... They are just down loading all the comments so we will get to ready soon and I willl try to blog later after i have read them all... but thanks everyone heaps for following us and cheering us on has been one special experience... love to all xxxx P.S awards banquet dinner last night on boat so that will be nice way to finish...

Col here, what an amazing race sandy had 2nd female and she just rocked this race from start to finish. so strong and determined. l am very lucky to be able to share jthis amazing 4 deserts journey with such a special lady. Sandy is classed as an elite ultra runner and l am sure this is only the beginning of here journey in running. As for me its time to hang up the runners and enjoy the tapering phase. Love reading everyones comments have had both a chuckle to oursleves and also felt very humbled by some of the wonderful things you all say it makes the whole experience even more special... and talking of special I am looking out the window at snow falling as we sail on to another part of these very very very southern waters... we have again meet some of the most amazing people and made some more friends that we will remember and be close with for many years to come like of you that we have meet all around the world you all feel like family and my one wish is that ours paths cross many times in our life times.

Well yesterday we landed on the actually ice shelf I suppose you would call it of Antarcitica it was so steep and so much snow and ice we had to put on our spike shoes chain things we pull over our shoes.. They managed to set up a course of around 1.3 or so kms so funny thou as it was straight up a big hill and then straight down the other side almost skidding into the checkpoint it was so hard to stop yourself expecially as i was running .. We continued up down up down for I think around 2 hrs I lose track of time as when we start we do and when it finishes it does... everything is so changable like the weather here that I have given up knowing what I should be preparing for.. you just always have to have your backpack and gear out and be ready quickly as soon as they tell you and also remember that anything can change at anytime... Yesterday to me was all about having fun and I powered up the hill and then just let you legs go on the down running sliding and laughing alot...oh yes and don't forget the slide into the checkpoint to get my card whole punch for that lap done... Nahalia and I had a great system going i would power up the hill in front pushing her and she would go in front on the downs pushing me as she flied down the hills with me throwing caution to the wind and just going for it.... eventually I got really game just kept laughing and running ...we had a great day. Col and I did a power up the hill on one of the laps and also got a great pic at the end with us both running that bit in together... was so awesome and lots of banter along the way...

Back to the ship for dinner then pack gear up for a night camping on Antarctica oh how incredible that feels to say that... we are just so privelage really really are... What an experience we got the Zodiacs over the shore set up our bivvys on the ice oh yes dug a whold out of the ice first to level it out and then climbed in the bivvy... I have to set the scene for you it was lightly snowing the ocean is like 2 meters from were we are camping with completes mountains covered in ice and thick ice walls alll around bedhind us is all mountainous and to the left of us is 100's of penguins just metres away some wondering around not fused by us at all.. it is magical... Oh what a feeling of complete peace with everything .... 

24hrs of daylight so you have no real concept of time and I cuddle up next to col in our little cut out of ice both in our bivvys and feel asleep I woke a couple of times during the night and peeked out and there were the penguins sleeping just metes away from me I smiles and went back to sleep. When we woke this morning it was snowing quite heaverly now and we were covered in snow all over the bivvy. It was a quick pack up and back to ship for breaky and find out about the day.

The last day today can't believe it and it is suppose to be a long day of about 8 hrs but as we head on our way in the ship to our destination the weather is looking bad and the captain just announced that they will take and extra hour to get to our destination as he has had to navigated through thick ice to get to our landing point.. Well this is it anything could happen but will keep you posted... so much emotion I have bottled up hope I am not a blubbering mess at the end... oh well what the hec if I i am this has been one hell of a journey..... love to you all I no they have had trouble with connecting to satelite so they haven't downloaded all messages but will get them soon ... I just know you are all thinking about us and that is truely special... big kisses and cuddles to all our kids and grandkids love you guys heaps miss you lots xxxx

We have woken this morning ready for two stages today one am one pm. So down to breky feeling a bit under the weather.. the cold from yesterday really took a toll on me We started at 5 deg and then it took a dive and dropped about 15deg to about -10 I think... the wind chill is even worse..have to say the wind is what is hard to cope with.. my eyes are puffey and the sunburn on my lips nose and face is awefull and painful. Ohh all you botox queens ... come to antarcitca I have the fatest lips... no joking dont know why anyone gets botox ... Col is doing so great no sore anything and full of cheek as usual with a Swans supporter on board it is so so funny .. Fergus and Col have the same sense of humour and the banter is great... Kate and Me just go along with the joke really...and sometimes thats just the boys. Michael by the end of the trip we might need that wedding script Col nearly has Suzie the Dr and Adam her partner convinced to get married on board... had so many laughs in amongst the serious of the running the serious side being prepared for the conditions.. Its so harsh at times and that is no joke its tough preparing just to know what to wear when you go on shore as you need to be prepared for anything .. I can say I have had a few moments and had to draw on my inner strength and Nahalia and I have had a great system going between us I am in front up the hills and push us and she is great on the down hills and I pound and sink into snow following behind.. and sink all the way ups and down it is very tiring on the legs but we are getting there slow and steady...that is the name of the game.. you cant stop too cold and once you chill too much you are gone.. Col has taken some great video too.. Oh yes the reason Col can get back to the boat before me as we did a 12hr day first day yesterday I thiink we did 8.5hrs so when the time is up and you hit the check point you get warm cloths on and go to the Zodaic and back to the boat. We are doing loops so you lap people and you get lapped by the leads it is good in some ways as you get to be around lots of different competitors both fast and slow it is great from that perspective. The views yesterday were magical yesterday I am sure the photos on line will show you that.. We had penguins crossing the paths in front of us while we are running Oh yes by the way they have right away we have rules that we need to not come with in a certain distance from them but they may approach you and they do they have not fear of us at all which is magic in itself. I was a mess when I got on board last night the trip on the Zodiac after the finish depleted any strengh I had left as it was bitter bitter cold. they had to lift me up and get me off the Zodaic as the sea was rough and I couldn't stand properly.. but Col was there smiling and cheering me on cup of hot tea and grabbing all my gear... Oh how lucky a girl I am...we are a good team

Rebbeca I will take your advice and try hard to stop stressing and Dean I am so thinking about that heat in Gobi from one extreme to the other but oh that heat that nearly killed us all... Oh yeah and those famous yellow jelly beans they have saved me here too...I will have them ready for our next race together..ha ha ....and as for Buddy Franklin going to Essendon Col thinks he has more taste than that...Oh sorry Anne but Dean started it...

Jane have to say I shouldn't answer any of your questions (although think I have) as that might keep you girls guessing at work.. and Denise and Anne that going away present of a She Wee would have come in handy.. although I am not allowed to pee on the ice out here have to use the porter toilet but you know could have done with it its too cold to bare your bum too go to the toilet...Denise you will be disappointed to know I brought the vaseline and then didn't put it up my nose ..my nose is know very sore..and Jan still have fingers and toes but they are looking bad well the toes anyway lost a whole big toe nail.. blisters too..

Well plans have changed and we have been told only afternoon run as late getting to were we had to go but did see so many Orca Whales unbelievable we are so Blessed have some great shots .. we are camping on the ice tonight and then have an 8 hr day tomorrow so that is going to be interesting... Have just eaten dinner on the ship its 10.10pm and no sign of darkness could be in the middle of the day really. In fact I got up last night at 3.30 thinking it was moring as the sun was shinning in the window in the crack of the curtains and as I ipulled them back I was greated to ice bergs floating past and the most magnificant view of ice mountains..so so incredible had a tear in my eye just can't believe were we are.. we have travel very far south now and have my map and getting the guide to mark it all for me.. so so fascinating... I am looking out the boat window at icebergs and the most incredible white white mountains...
Yesterday as in stage 2 we did a runner from the weather and headed 7 hours odd south the shettler but when we got to the Island we were going to start running on the snow and ice was so thick and risky that we couldn't do a run.. so they offered us to join in with all the tourist on the ship and go Kayaking or snow shoeing or just go and check out all the wild life on the Island. So on the Zodiacs we go and over to the Island we are greeting with lots and lots of penguins.. so gorgeous.... oh boy do we have some great photos... It was to say the least a journey I will never forget.... we sat amongst the penguins and they did not care we were there they are funny little things I was in ore of were we were... and I know people say things are life changing but geez this is.... it was an incredible day... so different from were my head was at it is really hard when you get ready to run get organised and you can.t go then you do it again and they so no go... but on this occasion I think luck was on our side as we then ventured out and mixed with the wildlife masses and masses of penguins so so can't really describe... 

Then of course the down side to that was that we had to do a huge day today... the boat moved during the night to another location and after breakfast we went throught a cannel to another Island some long boat trip through the night even further south needless to say it is even chiller lots and lots of icebergs floating everywhere... some more great camera and video moments... The briefting and lets get going I am doing my ususual panic attach trying to remember all the lovely comments you have all told me to keep us getting through the day..... so lets get on with this and go brave the cold...Back on the zodiacs and over to the Island we are greeted with penguins our cheer squad so gorgeous can't ever get sick of looking at the.. Well get orgnaises and off we go Col and i give each otheer a kiss and we are off and running a 3.3km loop I think... straight up a hill stunning scenery see the photos... and then across a very windy side and down a deep deep snow to the bottom across to get click one lap and then do it all over again and again and again.... it got colder and colder and colder freezing cold... I made a statement I will never run in the cold again... meet Col a couple of times and we had a great run together it was so much fun chatting to each other.. well we both finally finished cut of at 8pm... and Yes for you girls at work it is all based on time due to the weather conditions which are so changeable we sometimes have not idea what we are doing,

WEll tomorrow two runs one morning one afternoon blog later about that... gotta go to bed ...

Sandy (aka Ice-Queen) and Col (aka Iceman). So far so good troops. just doing some lazy strolling around the coldest place on earth !!!! The scenery looks incredible guys...I guess you are on Stage 4 now. Amazing to hear about the weather and how it has changed your destiny a few times. You guys are smashing it. Don't worry about blisters and hunger and dehydration and all that rubbish. Just look after hose liddle penguins, just don't bring any home. You are almost at the end of your incredible journey - first Husband and Wife team to smash this stuff!!! 1000 clicks. We will get you on 60 minutes when you return. stay upright - keep pounding the powder. You are doing us all proud. Some news from back here. WEll - 38 in the shade in Melbourne (heading out for a quick run in your honour!), Ricky Pointing is retiring (last test in Perth this week)....oh...And Luke Hodge has also joined the Bombers. She is one in a million and I am so priviledged to be able to say that she is my best friend. Hi Sandy. Sounds like such an amazing trip..almost indescribable. While you must be champing at the bit to do more running, how fantastic it must be to revel in that landscape. I hope to get there one day and from what you have reported, it has gone up my bucket list rankings! Hi Sandy & Col, so wonderful reading your blogs and hearing all about what an experience so far it has been for the both of you. Checked out all the photos, Col you look like you are in your element, temperature just right for you buddy you seriously look like you are loving every moment. Now Sandy you keep saying how cold it is but in the photos you have gloves on, gloves off, gloves on what is going on over there... just kidding! Glad I wasn't a fly on the wall when you were giving yourself an stern talking to, so would hate to be on the otherside of that conversation. I just can't imagine what it would be like watching an iceberg floating past your window, so surreal. Sandy all I can say is if the penguins can do it then so can you, now tell me has Col braved the water yet? You have a permanent Ice Bath to recover in.... You strength and determination is absolutely amazing and I am so pleased to hear that so far so good. Col and Sandy. Its been a long time since we have seen or spoken to each other but there isn't a week that goes past when I don't think of the fun in the Gobi and how much I wish I was there with you on your incredible journey. What a wonderful experience you must be having, despite the freezing cold, running in circles (yet to get my head around how you manage that and keep your head in gear!) and the unknowns of the weather. As always, your blogs are great and I am following every day. Of all the people I have met both of you rank as the most inspirational I know. You are both legends wherever you finish and I hope we get to meet again soon. Keep the spirits up - whatever Antarctica throws at you remember you've conquered all the pain the other 3 deserts have thrown at you and come out the other end in style. Well this is part two of yesterdays blog after the long stage... well in saying that might end up with another long stage yet so much unknown. Had breaky and ready for our briefing but ended up not being what we thought we were all preparing for a landing at Deception Island a 9.30 start and running through till rougly 8.30pm again... but like we have come to appreciate in Antarctica plans are made and plans are changing.. the weather is just so changeable and it seems to happen very quickly at times.Yesterday comiing in at the end of the race the wind had picked up and it was freezing.. I had to stop to get my coat out had put on and in that time couldn't feel my hands had to get someone to help me do up my backpack... it happens so quickly.. and when I got on t he zodiac the guys were really worried about the force of the wind coming through you look at their faces and you just know you need to hurry.

The sun starts going down about 9.30 but doesnt get really dark like we know..then the sunrise is about 3am this morning I got up at about 3.30 looked out the cabin window and the sun on the ice of the hills was incredible... so so beautiful had to pinch myself I was here feel extremely privelaged. The other passengers that were still awake when we had dinner last night at 10pm told us of their great days acitivities. Some went Kayaking some put on snow shoes and had a walk around the Island..oh yes it was King Geroge Island were we ran yesterday ... they also visited the church some participate in a service..russian I think they said.. and some went to the meusem..for those that don't know the Island has many huts and residence mostly scientist I believe... Its been great listening to their stories and all the reason they have come here... but really we are all here in this amazing place ... a world really all of its own.. almost like another planet so remote and ever changable...

We have now been told that we can't get of the ship here at deception island the wind is so strong and its too dangerous for us to go across on the Zodaic and the other thing we have just been told by the expedition guide is that were they land with the Zodiacs is all iced in .. don't think they expected that either so we are on the move 7 hrs to the next place which will mean it will be a late run but who cares it is what it is. Oh arhhh out the window a chunk of ice goes past us with three little peguins on it so so cute... that is what is so awesome about this trip... once in a life time experience.

Well time to sign of listen to some lectures they are providing pig out on lunch and get ready for running later... love to all check in on messages later as they need to find satelite service and then all will be upload... great bunch of people on board so time to relax and chat..yeahhhh... I know that will be short lived and I will be back to panicking again about how freezing cold it is out there... xxxx

Hey Rhiannon thanks for your support message Tell the kids have not seen santa yet but will keep looking. Though he was on a sleigh but was mistaken. Sandy ran fantastic yesterday and everybody was in awe of her determination,she certainly is held in high esteem by all the top competitors and the racing the planet team.

Listen here you little ANZACS. Don't trust those Penguins. Cute at first, but they can snap on ya. The cold...ah the cold. Remember sweating like mad on Stage 5 in Gobi when it was 50C ? Remember Col when you had to guzzle litre after litre in Sahara to keep yourself going in 48C heat? You guys can eat the cold for breakfast. Thanks for blogging, loving the read. Keep drinking cups of Tea and eating those magic yellow jelly beans. Some advice. When you pray, move your feet. Fall down 7 times - get up 8. Bring out your inner rock star. And finally - the bold don't live forever...but the timid don't live it all. Go get em you good things....(ah yeah. And Buddy Franklin just signed up to play for Essendon next year....cheerio!)

A quick blog tonight it is 10.30pm after one hell of a day out there the hardest long stage I have ever done. Early breaky then on the zodiacs we were in the last group to go so when we made it to shore a quick get ready...nervous were all over the place... have to share the fact that in the room this morning I came close to tellig ColI I can't do this... I was short of tears so many unknows and I no how much I can't cope with the cold I was in fear flea mode... well after some pretty stern words I had to myself I then got organised to leave.. one drop bag and our backpack with all mandatory gear in..


Col is awesome helped me out carmed me down and we were off.. today was now going to be 12hours cut of 8.30pm and if you were inthe middle of a loop you finished and they gave everyone the option at 8pm to finish It was a 14 km course and we looped in a figure 8 with checkpoint in middle.. Snow was thiick and at times we sunk up to knees in it ...so so awful.. the day was so tough legs are feeling it now. The magic of this place is hard to decribe... the only way to is by saying it was worth the sea sickness... The residence on this part of Antarctica were fantastic cheerihg us on.. I ran all day with Nahalia who lives in Chile we really help each other out... was a great day from that perspective. as we were doing laps when we laped Col he ran with us for some time was so so great my highlight today. When Nahalia and I finished 84km it was freezing and the wind had picked up hyperrthermal ready to set in.. backon the Zodiac and over to the warm boat... as I climbed up the side of the boat there was Col with the video OMG hate to think how I looked ..I was nearly in tears i was so cold.. Well we are of and moving again set sail for some other gorgious place down south.... Oh yes and the penguins here put on many a display today they are cute and very friendly we watched them jumping out of the water and sliding around on their bellys.... just love them


Gotta go to bed but read all the emails/blogs coming through really appreciate everyones kind words.. Anne Jan Denise and Jane hope you are creating havoc while I am away...just joking...hei ti everyone..Belinda miss you being here Col says it just isn't the same without your wonderful discussions.. Brilliant effort...Denise, Jan and I working hard while Muzz is playing with the girls in the city...hopefully will recover in time for work tomorrow cos I am not filling in!! Photos are absolutely amazing - scenery wildlife so beautiful. Denise thinks she could do the race cos it looks flat and not particularly cold!! haha. But in all seriousness - how did Col make it back to the boat before you? Did you both have to complete a minimum distance or just do what you could in the time frame? Ohhh Arhhh read all our comments thanks all you wonderful people I have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions a bit like this ship at sea but have had a nice read of bogs and emails to us and I am ready to just get out there and do this thing... Steve decided after I read your comments that I will do another desert with you just not this one....ha ha ha... its the boat trip don't know that I could handle another trip on this boat ..dont get me wrong the ship is wonderful but the Drake Passages has lived up to its name all last night things were flying around in our room including us I was bouncing of a wall crashing into Col and then trying to stop myself rolling out of bed... more drugs please... I have a sea sickness patch on bracklets on but just don't think I was meant to be on boats....the running seems all to easy now what a crack up. Well trying to eat little bits today and hydrate up as that is the problem for the few of us that have been vomitting to not be weak when we start tomorrow running.... but feel a bit better and just had a bit of lunch ...also been told seas should carm as we get closer to land..getting very excited to see the first lots of Ice masses...Have some gret pics of waves coming up over the front of the ship and also have pics/video of the waves as they throw us from one side to another... you see the sky the the ship rolls and you crash down into the waves.... of course I can add at that time we hang on to anything close at hand ...must admit we have had some laughs

Nothing worries him about the boat trip which is great ..

Caught up with lots of competitors the RTP staff and other tourist on board eveyone doing different things with one goal in mind at present to arrive in Antarctica.
Now all our hiking buddies you will love this... Col has found out there are two engaged couple on board so he has told them he will set it up with the captain to have the wedding on the ship... cost effective he has told them... I have a feeling this is Overland Track revisited... so so funny... told one of the couples I want to be the flower girl...well somehow we areamusing ourselves on this 2 and Half day boat trip.
Back to room to get our gear out ready for a 7am start I think 100km Bring it on.... love you all next blog will be all about our survival on land.

Yes this Princess is trying to suck it up thanks Denise and Carolyn I know you would wait for the time and tell me the same... I knew the boat trip would be a challenge and that it is only from the sea sickness and nothing else as it is a beautiful ship and to explain it is very similiar to a PO boat but on board we have a an expediture crew and other passengers just not us looney runners... Col is enjoying the food and the chatter and learning lots about Antarctica me I am learning lots about how best to bouce of the walls and my aim in the sea sick bag... can't even share to the birds as went out side in freezing cold for fresh air and wind so strong spray coming up retreated back to room for a lie down while Col had lunch. I am up at present typing thisblog and checking comment/emails eating a dry biscuit and weak black tea... hey so far so good.. Have had a quiet moment to shed a few tears and wonder what I am doing..but that was short lived as in some warped way I am so looking forward to getting these feet on land Antarctica land that is... woot hoo... so awesome and 100km first stage on King Geroge island ummm that will be interested. Thanks Leena, Kerry and Denise for your messages ..wonderful guys thanks heaps.

Well the boat is a rocking....seems to be getting rougher but this is probable carm or normal for these guys... .....some of the passengers are planning there kayaks, snow walking and moutaineering all sounds great.. well time to go have to lie down again...oh not so good again.. at least I am not the only sick one.. Oh Sandy I do feel for you as I know first hand what sea sickness is like and this is one time that I wouldn't be so mean as to say suck it princess. Now when you hit land that's a different matter. Well we are safely in Ushuaia and as you said Denise Stage one is over which was all the flights stage two was arriving in Ushuaia stage three is on the boat and stage four is the race.....So Funny if only it was that easy........ Well all I can say is what Mickey tells me all the time "BRING IT ON".....

Just read all our comments from the last blog and lovely to hear from friends we have made in past  races and all the wonderful friends and family we have... have my angel with me Kerry to keep me safe and might just need it for this boat ride bring on the calm seas PLEASE...anyway we are here in this gorgeous place taking it all in and feeling more like a tourist at the moment than some one that is preparing for their ultimate challenge.....excitement and an attack of the nerves flows in and out my brain every time i think of what lies ahead......The questions I keep asking myself how will I cope with rough seas and sea sickness and the question that haunts me how will my body cope with the cold....ummm....well answers will flow very soon....keep you posted..

Yesterday we ventured up to the Glazier which is about a 7km hike up the hill out the back of town.....Col got us lost twice and we ended up in some of the less established areas of town...but was good to see how they were all living and working in their own environment.... we conversed the best we could with our limited Spanish....must say there did help us find our way back on track to the Glazier. We had fun mucking around in the icy snow and tried out our chain/spike things we have to put on our shoes for the race...

Time to walk the town and of course get a coffee...... love to all xxxxSandy

With gear/lists/food spread everywhere in the house I am guessing this means I need to get my act together very quickly. Right about now I am feeling very unorganised and the brain is working overtime even when I am sleeping trying to tick all the boxes so we comfortable make that plane on Saturday morning.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone ……….so exciting… Col and I arrive a few days before the boat leaves so you will see us out and about and we are happy to have dinner or drinks/coffee with any one that also may be arriving early.

I have just come back from my Mum and Dads with a bundle of slides and old black and white photos from when my Dad was in Antarctica. But something I hadn’t realised was that it is exactly 50 years ago that he was there ….I was 2 years old. Dad was in the Royal Australian Air Force and spent 3 months in Antarctica mainly at “Wilkes station” (which has since been abandoned I believe). He was involved in all the mapping and his job was to service the planes. I asked Mum on the phone before if she knew when he left and she said “it was at the start of December as I was so annoyed he wouldn’t be here for Christmas. You kids were all little and he had to miss a Christmas with you all it was awful” That was in 1962 and it made me realise it was tough for Mum having Dad gone for so long and in those days there was not much contact. 

So while I am running or shuffling more to the point I will hold those thoughts with me and know that although not the exact place my Dad was I can share some of his experience in a slightly different way. I think secretly my Dad is very excited that Col and I are going to Antarctica and his memory at 86 is incredible of his own experience there ….can’t wait for him to share in our photos. 

Well safe travel everyone and see you down South…. Told the Grandkids we will keep an eye out for Santa……I know, he is in the North Pole but they don’t care about that just that Nana and Poppy might get to see Santa at his house……. Here is hoping………..… Sandy

Well in saying three down one to go kind of doesn't feel right as I can't see myself ever wanting to stop venturing into deserts to do events. Antarctica is the big one for me two of my worst fears sea sickness and cold.... I suffer from both just thinking about it. The challenge for me will start before the race even begins.... so why am I doing it.... because I can... Col and I have a saying "live your life with no regrets" so that is what we are doing... we are not going to be a pair of oldies sitting on the couch saying oneday and then it is all too late... we are living a dream OUR DREAM... to finish all the races together as a couple ....the over 50's... don't ride us of yet.... we are only just getting started on this wonderful life we have been blessed with ... Well time to get sorted with the gear and training I am sure there will be much chatter about both along the way until we all meet on board the boat.. Sandy

Sandy I met you and Colin in the Atacama amongst other RTP races. At 55 I agree with you dont right the over 50s off as they have the wisdom and maturity needed. (At least that is what I like to think) I will be competing in the Antarctic too which will make my 5th including the Kimberly. My wife wendy will be there as a volunteer so keep up the training and we look forward to seeing you and colin in Usguaia to board the boat. They tell me the waves crossing the Drakes passage can get up to 60/70 feet. Not something I am looking forward to... Garry

Oh Sharon we did have the best time didn't we.... I reckon we should share another tent together and do another race you now know what it is all about and can change a few things and that medal will await you at the end..How about Sahara feb 2014... gives you plenty of time... You are going to have to keep me focussed in Antarctica as I am going to have to get over the sea sickness and my fear of cold... ohh arhh take care Sandy

Reading you I say that you are the parents that I wished I had when I was young, you are brothers and sisters I would like to have and then you are the son that I would be proud if I had been old. I do not know when to place myself in my life so you inspire me happiness, joy of life and the courage to go further and further.
