Well all the final day is done and i scraped across the fnish line with a great deal of pain, this said it was a really good experience and most probably the best scenery to date... the wild life was amazing and very close to us.... the course again was a loop and very deep snow and the last part is a long down hill which at first was ok but by the 6th lap was so painful.....

On the medal giving it was nice to have paul acheson help get carlas angels flag out to get thefinal photos..... we had a few drinks last night infact i didnt leave the bar until 0530 in the morning and was the last man standing....

i am so lookinng forward to getting home and seeing the kids and zari and moving into our new house.... so i have a hangover and with the waves feel sick so going to bed....

What a fantastic effort. Just an awesome achievement. I have been tracking your progress throughout the race from sunny Hong Kong. Congratulations. I hope your hangover is not too bad but at least it will take your mind off the aches and pains! All the very best. Ken( Atacama)

Great work, amazing job to stick it out carrying that knee. I think I read you'll be back to Sahara next year, which is my plan. Hope to see you there. Nick A (Atacama)

Well where do I start today was supposed to be the longest day holy shit..... we started at 4 am with breakfast and 5 am zodiac boat to shore... there was an element of doubt as to what was expected of us but we had the course brief and it was a 2km out and back route with a hill at the end...

Well my aim originally was to conserve myself for the 15 hour day but as it goes after doing one lap the only way I was going to achieve this with my injuries was to take the civilian chip out and insert the army one so basically I would reg it out and run allay which I did...

To this end I had a really good day and felt that I gave a good account of myself for Carla's and the kids behalf, the weather was bad and like dartmoor in winter time so nothing we haven't seen before with rapid changes all day the time was cut short do to wind restrictions but we accomplished our aims....

I'm looking forward to tomorrow as this is the last day of racing before we have a day of sight seeing and then the journey back to Ushuaia and flights home.....

So ill update tomorrow and sorry for being brief tonight as I need to get my head down

21 November 2010 05:02 am (GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi

Well we woke early to try and get out for a long day but it didn't happen till about 11am.. when we got ashore me and Phil were already with our new strategy which turns out very effective and that is as opposed to walking or actually running we would shuffle... this helped my knees and I felt allot better and also we were allot faster.... so we were all set to go on the shore and I had changed some things today I wore seal skin socks and made sure I had all my food on me especially my hot food which was a pot noodle placed into a water bottle so all I had to do is add hot water without stopping....

We set off slow and started to get faster and was about middle of the pack which suited us well as we were going at a pace that was sustainable.... Again it started with me Lucy, Phil, James, Ian and the conditions were good to the first checkpoint but this was short lived as you could see a sinister dark front looming towards us which meant by the time we had got half way back we were told by one of the Chilean marshals we had to head back to the boat.... we were gutted as we did feel good..

Today my knee is getting worse and the calf bellow is also getting painful from only having half a calf.... however this aside my mental approach to this is unstoppable as this is why im here.... especially when I get emails to the effect that I Inspire and Motivate people at home.... The only thing is by being called a legend all the time makes me feel really old LOL...

I would like to thank all of you back home for the support and look forward to seeing you all when I get back... that's it today speak later

Holy shit due to weather our 4 am start got put back to 10 am and we had our ship to shore boat trip which brought back memories of beach landings from a rib….. once onshore the start was very quick due to the cold and as usual instead of walking I was running 12 min miles and after the first lap that went to 22min miles so I slowed down fast…. The route was hilly and as well as snow there was loads of mud…. The hills were hard as they were predominantly snow and your feet went straight through, which really agitated my knee, thank god for poles for stability.

The race consisted of two routes coming back to the Centre or HQ and you would run to see what you could cover in a 9hr period… well due to the speed I was going we could only do 3 entire loops which I think was about 26 miles. After settling into my pace Phil Tye and Robert Love were going at the same speed so we grouped up and this made it better for me to pace with them as well as discuss world issues, love and life…

My injuries were painful and knee did take a bashing and the bone in my foot is as bad as the knee, however I took a sensible amount of pain relief whilst eating loads of food on the move as to keep my core temperature up and allow nutrients to be absorbed to help every injured part of my anatomy… due to this I wasn’t conscious of any bad vibes of not finishing as the pain was not as severe as it was in the Sahara. If I can apply this mythology to the next few days I should be ok….

I must admit to achieve 250KM in the next 4 days will be really hard to accomplish and as I said before I came I  will push myself to make sure I complete this… The weather is like the UK winter (everyday) and this made me feel quite at home, I would say me and my son Kyle when we run we have been in worse weather obviously not the same distance but still colder… With the temperature being so and the fact that my feet were saturated I felt quite at home and really enjoyed the environment…

I saw some really nice penguins and a seal that was ashore and when I walked past it rolled on its side and waved to me, bloody hell I though how strange was that… I have tried to get photos but don’t know how well they have come out… I am so glad I came on this last desert as it is the culmination of a year’s work and well worth the visit and experience. This is a good way to end the year before Xmas which I am totally looking forward to in our new home which is all going through and will be ready 3 days after I get back…

So I am going to log off now and will blog tomorrow so send me some encouragement….

DAY 3-4 DRAKE PASAGE

Well we are nearly here to start the race and u can cut the atmosphere with an anticipation knife, which makes it very exciting.. all the briefings have been done an it’s time to get to bed ready for the 4:00 start on the first leg of 15hours… Even though I was not going to get technical about completing the race it appears my mind set is to do as much as I can and worry about the injuries when I get back… So doctor Shelton stand by for broken me…..

It has been an amusing day of rest and eating and winning card games…. I am so looking forward to starting now and doing my best for the charity www.carlas-angels.com I am hoping some more people will have sponsored me… As this is the last desert and the fact that the land is not owned by anyone I will endeavor to take myself to the edge of the spirit world to make a final connection with Carla to thank her for saving my life, and to tell her the kids are doing well and will never forget her.

This has been such an experience that I hope you can all experience through my eyes in the way I will explain what I see. Whilst on the boat we have had a fairly calm route until today as it has changed from a 4 to a 7 (12 being the roughest) the bird life is amazing and still following us, unfortunately I haven’t seen a whale yet but with all the food I am eating I think the size of my belly has scared them off… Yukata my Japanese roommate is cool and sleeps so quietly and spends a lot of the time asleep….

Well we start tomorrow and I will try to graphically keep you informed of my every step….. also thanks Zari for sorting house and seeing the kids while I’m away… Gladys and Carl, Red hot Chili guys, Gary Cambridge (I have had a few drinks), CTR guys if you need anything just email me NOT, tell ady im not on vacation, Eva fitness 2000 can you print out to share with members….

See you all soon

Well its now the 18th and we set sail on our adventure yesterday from Ushuaia and down the Beagle channel onto the drake passage... Well the cabins and boat our out of this world and I feel like a tourist expecting a cruise... This surprise is a welcomed one as we are now rocking back and forth permanently... The wildlife thus far has been an attack whilst on deck from an albatross the size of a plane especially when its heading for you.... I think he thought my shiny head was a landing pad.....

Apart from the journey being excellent I am looking forward to getting ashore and achieving this one... The thing I like the most about this as well as the location, is that this is an area of land that is preserved and owned by no one, which makes it very special.

Ok I am waffling now so will checking tomorrow......

By this Kyle is doing remarkably well in everything he touches and Star, well she is a star and still my baby. Both of which have developed a strong relationship with me which is inseparable. My own life has changed with new love in my life, Zari is the most kind hearted, patient and good willed women i have met, who supports both me and the children beyond my belief. Mr Kent, I can't believe how quickly this year has gone! I've got everything crossed that the injuries you're carrying don't hinder you beyond what you can bear. You're a hero of mine, and I know that so many of the other competitors across the 4 Deserts 2010 feel the same way. Enjoy The Last Desert, you certainly deserve to.
