Why Not Join as a Team?!"

RacingThePlanet events are legendary tests of individual endurance across the world’s most punishing landscapes, and they also offer a distinct, collaborative alternative.

The Team Categories add further to the camaraderie and friendly competition, and give a greater chance for a podium place (in the team category). You will also get an individual ranking so there is nothing to lose.

We already have six teams for the Namib Race 2026 with Ecuador, Taiwan, Brazil, Korea and Macau all represented.

  • Let us know if you would like to become an Official Team or a Group Team at the Namib Race 2026.

A Team at the Namib Race

There are two Team Category options:

1. Official Teams

  • Composed of two or more members.
  • Teammates must remain within sight of each other at all times, they can be separated by a maximum distance of 100 meters while on the course.
  • They must pass through the start line, checkpoints and the finish line together.

2. Group Teams

  • Composed of three to five members only.
  • They can race as individuals at their own pace – they do not need to be together.
  • A Group Team time is made up of the average time of all team members.
  • The Group Team with lowest average time across all Stages is the winner.

You can also be an Unofficial Team. This is an informal grouping with no proximity requirements and no official ranking. Generally, this is nice if you are representing a company, running group or raising funds for a charity.

“I loved being a part of a team. So much better to share the experience together with friends. It definitely makes the hard times more enjoyable—we could always find something to laugh at. If I was joining another race I would only do it again as part of a team”

- Adam, Team Chelacabur, Atacama Crossing 2025

“In the past, I always raced alone. That sense of solitary competition came with immense pressure. Now I get a sense of accomplishment to use my experience to accompany my team mates to the finish line—and help them succeed in the team categories. This brings me the greatest fulfilment in life.”

– Kevin, past champion ready to join his 10th race.

How Do You Win?

  • Official Teams are ranked based on the adding the finish time of the team for each Stage. The Official Team that has the lowest cumulative time for all Stages is the winner.
  • Group Teams are ranked based on the average time of all team members who successfully complete all six Stages of the race. The Group Team with the lowest average time is the winner.

Rules

There are few requirements of teams. You can see the full details of the team rules in Article 12 of the Official Rules & Regulations. In particular:

  • Teammates are strictly forbidden from carrying each other’s gear, clothing, or food supplies.
  • Every competitor must complete the entire multi-stage course.
  • Official Teams must stay together at all times.

If you would like to join as a team, select “Official team” or “Group team” when you complete the registration, or let us know and we can make you a team.
