Trainer: Zandy Mangold (Atacama Crossing Champion)

Zandy grew up amongst the roots and rocks of rural New Hampshire, but has lived in Brooklyn, NY since 2001. After graduating from Connecticut College where he earned Academic All-American honors in cross-country, he embarked on a career as a photojournalist, and it was actually a photography assignment for RacingThePlanet that introduced him to ultrarunning.

Naive to the demands of an ultramarathon, Zandy finished in dead last place in his first ultra event - a 250km stage race in the Australian outback - but he learned key lessons and since that race went on win other ultra races, qualify for eight Boston Marathons, but most importantly develop a sustainable approach to racing and training. Zandy went on to WIN the Atacama Crossing.  He recently finished the Western States in under 24 hours and completed the Spartathlon (Greece), a 150-mile nonstop race.

Zandy looks to keep running the dream at RacingThePlanet and other yet-to-be-determined races and FKT attempts.
