Yesterday was the start of the 80Km Long March, both the course and the weather was difficult. The was just about every terrain apart form sand dunes, running on the beach, rocky trails, and long descents. All blister-friendly! There was also thunderstorm and heavy rain in the morning but the was blasts of sunshine from time to time in the afternoon, swinging repeatedly between clod and hot.

I couldn't eat or drink the night before but we had to get a ferry to yesterday's start line and there's was a shop onboard. The sodas and chips saved my life, otherwise I couldn't have run. However, I felf nauseous again just over half way through yesterday. My legs were OK and I wanted to push but I dare not because of my stomach. Couldn't even drink over the lasty 20km.

I also went the wrong way AGAIN but realised earilier than the other day (1km v 2km extra).

Nonetheless I finished strong though uncomfortable (actually sick :p). Got in before midnight yesteray, so I can rest today. Ranking is on a downtrend though, but I'm beating people half my age. So I'm not an old dog yet, haha.

Tomorrow will be a final sprint for 5km, then travelling back to Marathon. This will be the final blog on course. Will update gain on whatsapp.

Big THANKS to Lucia for posting evrything there.

Lets meet up for a meal gathering later as I have many more stories, omitted here because blood hadn't gone back up to my brain after running each day :p.

Major problem today and disappointed. Woke up many times last night. Appetitie got worse and worse with nausea. Couldn't eat or drink on course apart from 2 packets of soya drink (now down to last packet).

Todays course has some difficult sections, and the miles of train tracks and roads tax both the feet and the mind.

Think I've fallen from back of front pack to back of middle pack. Sorry that I have to kiss good results goodbye. Now only hope to be able to eat and finish as 80km tomorrow.

However, one good thing is that I have more time to enjoy the scenery. There's always a silver lining. Forecast is rain tonight and tomorrow morning, so more challenges to come. No matter what, will smile at the camera. :)

Anthony~ You are a hero who saved people from weakness! Now you are here to advance practice your internal strength, I hope you feel satisfy with the program that the universe has prepared for you☺️ wish it is not too harsh this time. You have had worse before 🤣

Thanks for all your messages. Sorry I can’t reply individually.

It was a cold morning, warm in the afternoon, and cold again when I got to camp in the afternoon.

Annoying the day did not go well for me. The course was mostly flat for about 20km and then climbing about 900m (the height of Tai Mo Shan) over 20km. As usual I started slow and easy, so had plenty of strength for the last stage. However, I was too focused on « baw sheung » that I miss a turn, wasting a lot of time and energy going the wrong way!

Backtracking and trying to catch up was ‘ho sun fu ». I tried to settle my emotions but was angry with myself, so I ran like mad. Not sure if that did any good.

No appetite since last night. Will try to rest a bit and eat.

Keep cheering me on please.

Thanks for all your messages and encouragement. They all mean a lot to me.

It started raining before race start but stopped in time. Thought to be an easier day but anything but. Basically started with a long descent, then two 500m climbs with a forest trail (slipped 4 times on descent whenever I lost concentration, must focus :p) and a long stretch of monotonous roads sandwiched in the middle.

Yesterday was too busy to eat my comfort food, today I needed them.

It was cool this morning, but the sun came out in full force in the afternoon. Even I put on the sunscreen. The heat really zapped me on the final ascent. Also have problems with R. Shoulder pain. Think the tracker is rubbing on my shoulder, will try to put some padding on.

Not sure what's on tomorrow. I just keep going. Hope I can keep up the pace.

You did well today Tony in spite of the difficulties. A new challenge to look forward to tomorrow - rest well so you can be prepared for it. We’re rooting for you!

Just finished stage 1.

As expected, it rained last night and it rained hard. Only had about 3hr sleep, possibly due to excitement, the pelting rain, and the chorus of snoring (haha). Toilet run was a major logistic challenge tying too keep myself, my shoes, and the tent dry.

It also rained after the race started. Expecting it to be hot here, it’s very cool and windy most of the time. Total elevation was 2000m, up annd down over 40km or so. Some rock paths, some steep rock stairs (VERY slippery because of rain), some risky rock climbs and miles of various types of track and road.

Now I am at camp at an altitude of around 1600m I think. It’s FREEZING! Don’t know how to wipe myself clean in the cold.

Tomorrow should be an easier day. Update again in camp. Will see if there’re any messages from you (I hope so :p)

27 September 2025 04:24 pm (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

I'm now on the bus en route from near-Marathon to Kardamyli, the starting point for the race. It's a 5 hour journey and the clouds ahead of me doesn't look good. Rain likely.

I've run in heavy rain before but not camp in rain. So have to learn to adapt to get a good night's sleep.

Race starts tomorrow morning. Do send me email vis this website. 😊

26 September 2025 09:30 am (GMT+02:00) Athens, Beirut, Istanbul, Minsk

After 3 months of preperation, interrupted by extreme weather and work committments, here I am in Greece. With 2 days till the race begins, I'm feeling both excited and somewhat anxious.

Despite previous race experience, I had not trained as much I would have like to. In addition, the shingles I had 6 months ago had got better but the pain plays up from time to time. However, in life we often have to deal with curve balls and have to do the best with what we have got.

I am looking forward to exhibiting my physical, testing my mental, and strengthening my emotional resilience. Do send me messages and join me in this adventure.
