POST RACE DETAILS
The final racers crossed the finishline at 9am.
Racers received their medals as they crossed the finishline followed by food, drinks and celebrations.
There was then an opportunity to explore the caves of Vardzia. Vardzia is a cave monastery site in southern Georgia, excavated from the slopes of the Erusheti Mountain on the left bank of the Kura River, thirty kilometres from Aspindza. The main period of construction was the second half of the twelfth century
This was followed by the Awards Banquet, presentation of special awards and watching the Photo Slideshow and a preview of the Highlights Video from the race.
Special congratulations also goes to the ten 4 Deserts Grand Slam Plus and Grand Slam contenders who have just completed the second race in this competition:
They then boarded the buses to return to Marriott Hotel in Tbilisi (which overlooks Freedom Square which is a famous landmark in the centre of town).
Racers had their first shower for over a week – this is possibly the best shower of their life. Connected with friends and family now that they have internet connection and had a peaceful night sleep.
The achievement of completing this race are now starting to set in as they remember the stories from the week and the friends they made.
