Camp Icebergs to Camp Salt and Pepper

Stage 2, Camp Salt and Pepper, 5:32pm - All competitors are now in camp eating dinner, relaxing and swapping stories.  It was a hot one without the breeze of yesterday.  Several runners felt the heat and suffered dehydration between the first and second checkpoint of the stage.  Kazuo Isomura of Japan ran out of water and after being laid out on the path and fanned by staff, he recovered quickly and was able to sprint across the finish.  Team History Channel is looking strong despite Danny Moy's sore ankle.  There is suspicion that they are conserving energy for later in the week. There was a bottleneck at the second checkpoint of the day and it was quickly dubbed the "Four Seasons checkpoint" due to the lavish service they were providing - service so good, many found it hard to leave.

It is evening now, the sun has set and the mood around the campfire seems to be good.  Tomorrow's stage is rumored to be 36km and lots of sand.

Stage 2, Camp Salt and Pepper, 12:15pm - What a day so far.  Its hot at noon with temperatures around 38C.  Korean Ahn Byeung Sik blew through in a time of 3 hours 20 minutes.  Francesco Galanzino of Italy close behind.  These two are now becoming an institution at 4 Deserts events as pack leaders.  Newcomer Jimmi Olsen of Denmark, despite feeling worn out yesterday came in third.  Claire Price of the UK/Hong Kong is maintaining her speed and strength and just crossed as the fourth overall and first woman.  She felt today was a little tougher due to the terrain but Sandy McCallum who crossed fourteenth overall and third for women, felt today was much prettier.

The whole field started out very fast this morning, while there still was a cool breeze.  By the first checkpoint, all were moving quite fast.  The heat is high now though so we expect people to be on the course longer than yesterday.

Camp Salt and Pepper is situated on the edge of the white desert.  The white formations have given way to expanses of sand peppered with igneous (volcanic) rock.

NOTE:  We had a server blackout last night for several hours so apologies for all trying to follow the race.  Everything is in order now and over 100 photos plus video interviews from Stage 1 have been posted.
