Management and Staff Bios

   

Jan L. Richardson
Washington, USA

Jan returns to the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 to again manage the campsites, a position he has held since July 2004. Jan competed in the inaugural 4 Deserts event -- the Gobi March (China) 2003. He has also completed the Raid Gauloises and dozens of outdoor events around the world. Jan was featured in a National Geographic Channel documentary in 2003. A favorite with the competitors, Jan is a character that epitomizes the RacingThePlanet spirit.


Hany Zaky
Cairo, Egypt

Hany Zaky is the local partner for RacingThePlanet in Egypt. During the Sahara Race 2006, Hany Zaky will be in charge of the course team and will oversee all operations throughout the event.

       

Alexandra Cooper
United Kingdom

Alexandra spent five years in the Army, most recently as an Army Officer (Captain in the Royal Engineers) serving in the Falkland Islands, Germany, Kuwait, Northern Ireland and Oman.  She is currently a Territorial Army Officer organizing training for 140 potential cadets within the University of London Officer Training Corps while completing a physiotherapy degree at Kings College London. (She previously completed a degree at Edinburgh University).  Alex was a volunteer at the Atacama Crossing (Chile) 2006 and returns to the Sahara Race 2006 to lead the volunteer team and manage day-to-day operations.


Catherine A. Cole
Hong Kong, China

Cathy works full-time as a Senior Vice President for RacingThePlanet in Hong Kong. During the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 she will lead the Multimedia Team, responsible for all media and communications during the event, in particular the website coverage. She completed the Gobi March (China) 2005 and volunteered in the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2005 and has led the Multimedia Team for every event since. 

       

Tamas R.T. King
Hong Kong, China

Tamas has recently joined the RacingThePlanet management team full-time and will be handling competitor relations and course mapping throughout the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006.


Kris Wu
Hong Kong, China

Kris works full time for RacingThePlanet handling event planning and operations for all events around the world. During the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 she will be assisting with the operations as well as managing the hotel and food and beverage activities. Kris is a perfectionist in every sense of the word.

Hong Kong, China

Mary, the Founder and CEO of RacingThePlanet will oversee all aspects of the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006.

Pierre Beguin
Challes Les Eaux, France

Pierre returns for his third 4 Deserts event as part of the Course Team. He will primarily oversee all technical and safety aspects of the course and event. Pierre has a long history with the Raid Gauloises as the primary individual responsible for setting nine Raid Gauloises courses in remote locations around the world. As a member of the Raid Gauloises organization, Pierre also managed all safety aspects of events, and assisted with government relations within the various countries. He is a professional skier, climber and river guide. Pierre was part of the Course Team for the Gobi March 2006 and the Atacama Crossing 2006.
