Logistics

 

The logistics behind an event of this scale are complicated and far-reaching. Here's a look at what will be supporting the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 over the 250 kilometers in the Sahara.

Staff and Medical Support: There will be a total of 35 international staff including the volunteers and medical team. The medical team is made up of 4 top medical professionals, many of whom have been involved in a previous 4 Deserts event.

Campsite: To assemble and take down the campsite daily and to drive vehicles, there is a local team of 27 individuals.

Vehicles: For transportation, there are thirteen four-wheel drive vehicles and one flat-bed truck.

Tents: All tents were specially made for the Sahara Race 2006 out of pure Egyptian cotton, taking into consideration the expected day and night-time temperatures. They sleep 10 people each. There are 7 competitor tents, 3 staff tents, a media tent, a kitchen tent, a medical tent, a headquarters tent and 10 checkpoint tents.

Technology: In order to power the communications equipment and keep the website up-to-date with race developments, there will be Inmarsat satellite terminals, generators and the latest in PC/Mac laptops.

Hotels: The Movenpick Resort Cairo - Pyramids is the official hotel of the Sahara Race 2006.


Water: PepsiCo is providing 9000 liters of Aquafina bottled water for competitors throughout the event.
