Nov. 4, Cairo, 10:30pm - Jimmi Olsen of Denmark is crowned winner of the Sahara Race 2006. Claire Price of the United Kingdom takes first place in women's division.

 

Nov. 4, Cairo, 10:30pm - Jimmi Olsen of Denmark is crowned winner of the Sahara Race 2006. Clare Price of the United Kingdom takes first place in women's division.

 

Nov.4, Stage 6, The Sphinx - Olsen of Denmark has won Stage 6, almost ten minutes ahead of Galanzino. Price of the UK takes first for women. All cleaning up now for the evening Awards Banquet.

 

Nov. 4, Stage 6, 8am - Competitors are arriving now in Cairo for the final 13km sprint or hobble to the Sphinx. Photo finish expected with two minutes seperating leaders in closest 4 Deserts race to date.

 

Nov. 3, Stage 5, 4:40pm - 67 year old Kazuo Isomura of Japan is the last to cross the Stage 5 finish line. All in camp. Buses will take competitors to Cairo at 2am for Stage 6.

 

Nov.3, Camp El Ris, 2pm - Yasue Fujisaki of Japan has just crossed the finish line. 4 more competitors on course. Stage 5 cut-off time is in one hour.

 

Nov. 2, Camp El Ris, 11:30am - Yeo Sang Hoon of Korea and Sonya and Mario Zamora from the US have just crossed the Stage 5 finish line. 6 more still on course.

 

Nov.2, Camp El Ris, 9:45am - Only 9 competitors still on course. Frank Alvarez and Daniel Jones the last to come in one hour ago. Everyone else relaxing at camp.

 

Nov 1, Camp El Ris, 11:00pm - Claire Price of the United Kingdom, first woman has just crossed the Stage 5 finish line. Competitors are getting lost in village 5km from the finish.

 

Nov 1, Camp El Ris, 10:45pm - Olsen of Denmark wins Stage 5 in time of 10hrs and 5 mins, beating Galanzino of Italy by 20 minutes. As of now, only 7 competitors in.

 

Now. 1, Stage 5, 6pm - Last 3 competitors have just passed the halfway point of Stage 5. Night has set in. Glow sticks are out to light the way. All competitors on course.

 

Nov. 2, Stage 5, 2:00pm - Competition is fierce at start of Stage 5. Jimmi Olsen, Denmark, has an 8 minute lead on Francesco Galanzino of Italy as of the 4th CP of the Stage.

 

Nov 2, Stage 5, 9:05am - The 20 frontrunners have started Stage 5, three hours behind the rest. Team History Channel has split, now running with two members due to injury.

 

Nov. 2, Stage 5 - First group of runners on course at 6am. Top 20 runners about to start at 9am. 100km/60m course today with many expected to run through tonight.

 

Nov.1, Camp White Tower, 5:20pm - Kiyoshi Kondou and Kazuo Isomura, both of Japan are the last to finish Stage 4. Toasted marshmallows being served at the campfire.

 

Nov 1, Camp White Tower, 4:45pm - Four competitors still on course. Sun is setting on camp. All thoughts on tomorrow's 100km/60m stage.

 

Nov 1, Stage 4, 12:00pm - Frontrunners still holding their lead in Stage 4. A mad dash in the final kilometer puts Jimmi Olsen, Denmark, in first and Francesco Galanzino in 2nd. Korean Ahn Byeung Sik followed 10 mins after.

 

Nov 1, Stage 4, 8:34am - Early 7am start again for Stage 4. 18 runners already through CP1. Temps rising, 38.5km/24m today.

 

October 31, Camp Rolling Stones - Stage 3 Results have been posted. All quiet at camp. Tomorrow's Stage 4 will be 38.5km/24m.

 

October 31, Camp Rolling Sands - Andrew Chalmers and Paul Mac Johnston are last to complete Stage 3. Sand storm has abated. All calm at camp.

 

Oct. 31, Camp Rolling Sands, 3:50pm - 3 competitors still on course. Sandstorm still raging at camp. Depsite this all will celebrate Halloween tonight!

 

October 31, Camp Rolling Sands - Italian Francesco Galanzino and Dane Jimmi Olsen in first. Korean Ahn Byeung Sik in third. Wind still battering 2/3 of course. 26 people have finished.

 

October 31, Stage 3, 10:15am - Wind is picking up mid-course. 28 runners through CP2 which is now getting battered by a fierce gale. 1 runner has dropped.

 

October 31, Stage 3, 8:26am - 26 runners already through CP1 of Stage 3 (10km/6.1m in) and now heading off into the dunes. Cool temps so far helping runners.

 

October 30, Camp Salt and Pepper, 11pm - Early 7am start slated for Stage 3. Long arduous stretches of sanddunes and 38km/23.8 m expected.

 

October 30, Camp Salt and Pepper, 5pm - Andrew Chalmers of Angola, Paul Mac Johnston of Scotland and Kondo Kiyoshi, Japan, are final competitors to cross the Stage 2 finish line just after 4pm. All at camp, sun is setting.

 

October 30, Camp Salt and Pepper, 3:00pm - Only 4 competitors still on course for Stage 4. Preliminary results will be posted soon. Wind is picking up at camp.

 

October 30, Stage 2, 11:54am - Claire Price of the UK/Hong Kong just finished fourth overall and is setting a blazing pace to be fastest women ever in 4 Deserts event.

October 30, Stage 2, 11:19am - Korean Ahn Byeung Sik has just won Stage 2. Francesco Galanzino, Italy close behind, followed by Jimmi Olsen, Denmark. Temperatures already 38C.

 

October 30, Stage 2, 9:30am: Stage 2 has begun and the front of the pack is already setting a blistering pace, trying to beat the heat of the day. 31.7km/19.8m.

 

October 29, Camp Icebergs, 5:00pm - Jacqueline Eastridge, USA, and Paul Mac Johnson, Scotland, are the last to cross Stage 1 finish line. All competitors at camp. Sun setting over sand and limestone formations.

October 29, Camp Twin Peaks, 9:01am: The Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 has officially commenced to the sounds of Egyptian drums and flutes. Competitors are off on Stage 1.

October 28, Camp Twin Peaks, 10:30pm - All is quiet at campsite #1. Only the media team and the generator are still awake. The Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 will kick off in 12 hours.

 

October 28, 2006 - All competitors and staff have left Cairo on buses bound for campsite #1, Camp Twin Peaks, located in the Western Desert. 24 hours to race start.

 

October 27, Cairo, 10:30pm - All but three competitors have completed race registration and gear check. The remaining three arrive in Cairo late tonight. All competitors leave for the Western Desert tomorrow morning.

 

October 27, Cairo, 3pm - The course team has left for the Sahara ahead of competitors. Japanese and Korean contingents have arrived. Check-in will start in a few hours.

 

October 26, Cairo, 9am - The first official event of the Sahara Race (Egypt) 2006 kicks off this morning with volunteer and staff training near the Pyramids.

 

October 24, 2006, Cairo, Egypt - The course team has returned from the final course scouting. Photos have just been posted in the Photo Gallery.
