24 Hour Countdown
Posted 8am Saturday, Sept 24

As of midnight last night, all competitors, except for a few missing ones, were checked into the Movenpick Heliopolis by the Cairo airport. The lobby was abuzz with people greeting old racing friends amidst the singing and drumming of several Eqyptian wedding parties traipsing through.

VIP check-in began last night at 8pm. All previous RacingThePlanet race participants were given priority check-in treatment, twelve hours in advance of the rest. Check-in involves a mandatory equipment check, medical check, weigh-in and issuance of race passports. All 33 individuals who checked in early appear in good shape and ready for the race start in 24 hours.

Racers are trickling in this morning for breakfast. Check-in continues at 8am followed by racecourse briefings to be given by Race Director, Ian Adamson and the medical team. At 12noon, the group will board buses and begin the 6 hour drive to the first campsite, Camp Farafra.
