Racing
to the Start
The hub of activity is the Movenpick Resort, 1km away
from the pyramids in Cairo, Egypt. It's the final countdown
before 104 competitors descend on Cairo for the start
of the Sahara Race 2005. The RacingThePlanet management
team arrived Monday and has been hard at work with final
logistics. Additional staff members and volunteers have
started to arrive from around the world over the last
two days, some bleary-eyed from long flights, others
over-caffeinated and anxious to make themselves usual.
The team of 36 staff and volunteers will spend Thursday
and Friday in training and taking care of last-minute
details before the majority of competitors arrive. Staff
members have traveled from points in Asia, North America
and Europe. The prize for traveling the farthest distance
is Mark Ning from Auckland, New Zealand who flew over
10,000 miles as the crow flies, or as they might say
here in Egypt, as the Ibis flies. |
