WW05: my exercise days were Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

I like to say thank you to my cousin in Arizona for her support. Thank you cousin Penny for your kind words and your warm heart.

I would also like to say thank you to a dear friend for her support.  Thank you Doreen for your support and for our long long friendship.

This is Ethan my little brother.  Ethan has a great enthusiasm for the Big Brother Big Sister program.  We meet together once a week to hang out and learn from each other.  I learn the most from him to be a better person and to be more understanding.

The two new logos added to my race uniform.

Working on my core and changing up my work out program.

WW06: my exercise days were Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Working on my core and changing up my work out program.  I was a bit tired or drained due to reviews at work and had to fight to get myself to the gym.  Once I got myself into the car, I was able to get to Firstenburg Community Center.  Kathy greet our family with a wonderful home baked scone that was so delicious that the scone melted in your mouth.

I have a lot of support at Firstenburg Community Center.  The staff and individuals that come out to work out have allowed me to train on the equipment a bit longer.  There is a 30 minute time restriction to allow other to use the equipment, but I have been able to work out longer due to their generosity.

I helped out with Children Cancer Association Fund Raising

http://www.childrenscancerassociation.org/  Please read more and donate if you can.

I am able to walk 5 miles in less than 2 hours with my 45 lbs weight vest and 12 lbs leg weights on.  The Stair climber is helping my leg endurance.  I will continue to do aerobic classes and cycling class to use different muscle in my leg.  I can feel the burning in my body as I continue to strengthen up my entire body. I have lost an inch around my waist and now my pants are getting too big for me.

The best part of all this training is that my family is training with me to encourage me to challenge myself.  My son does his training independently but we share a brief moment together, my daughter and I do cardio in the afternoon together, and my wife and I share classes together.  When ever I can get family time together I will take it.  This is a priceless moment in time.

WW03: my exercise days were Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

I changed my cardio and added cycling on Thursdays.  This class runs for 1 hour.  I got my new weight vest which is 60 lbs.  I had to reduce the amount of weight in the vest to 40 lbs but I will gradually increase the weight of my vest.   My endurance has dropped and so has my ability to run and walk. I am able to use the stair climber for 45 minutes with the weight vest.

During our second snow fall our car was hit.  This is a view of the car at 180 degree after it was hit on the driver’s side.  The car was first hit on the driver’s side and ended up 180 degrees up this embankment. No one was injured and we hope to get our car back in a month or so.

WW04: my exercise days were Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

I would like to say Thank you to IKAA (International Korean Adoptee Associations) for allowing me to use their logo also.  Thank you Sarah Kim Randolph for being the contact with IKAA.

Here is my weight vest that I am using.  This is a 62 lbs vest that has individual compartments to add or subtract weights as needed.

I am having the logo turn into patches to add to my uniform.  Designs on Demand is the company that will be producing my patches for the two logos.

I also have a little brother named Ethan who is now 7 years old.  I belong to Big Brother Big Sister program.  I have been sharing with him my racing goals.

Motivation is still high.  Still avg about 3.5 hours per day in the gym on my off days.  I haven’t gone running after work yet since it is still cold and a bit dark.

Work: I am in review cycle at work.  I have completed my pre-evaluation.  Now the real battle will begin.  I hope to come out of the two meetings alive and with my shirt still on my back.

December 2006 Entry
Posted January 8, 2006

Welcome to my journal on my first Extreme Race.  I have been excited to start the application process after watching the Sahara 2006 race on NBC Jeep World of Adventure Sports.  I have been reading the other racers' remarks in their blogs.  I would like to give a shout out to the racers that have posted information for me to read and learn from.

This month has been a month that has been short since I finally decided to dip my feet into the unknown.  Tamas has been helping me once I started to process my paper work.

My logo that I will be wearing on my hat is for Korean Adoptees around the world.

The logo reads "GOAL" in Hangul but as you probably notice it is in a  wrong sequence. This was intended by the artist who created it as she stated that adoptees are on one hand Korean, on the other hand they still do not fit into the Korean society. That's why the word was written wrong  on purpose.

I have been going to The Vancouver WA -Clark Parks and Recreation; Firstenburg Community Center.  I have been concentrating on conditioning my body.  I have been lifting weights, jogging, and stair climbing.  As the weather gets colder, I try to wear more clothing as I exercise to increase the core heat and force myself to drink more fluids.  I found I have a slight problem at this time.  As I am jogging I can not drink out of my bottle.  I will be adding a straw and trying this method out.  I know that while I am out on the course I can stop and drink.  But at this time I am trying to work on my endurance.

Goals for the Sahara Race (to finish, to win, time, etc.)?

To finish the race, to meet wonderful people, and to survive to race another race.

Why are you competing in the Sahara Race?

To put myself in a situation where I need to have a strong mind and a strong will.  I need One Mind.

How did you hear about the Sahara Race?

NBC Jeep World of Adventure Sports.

Brief Bio/CV:

I am Korean American.  I was born in South Korea in 1965, but I do not remember a bit about South Korea.  I visited South Korea when I was 15 years old.  My parents adopted me and gave me a new start from a bad beginning.  I grew up in Vancouver, WA and still live in Vancouver WA.

I went to a university for a year before both of us decided that I needed to exit with grace.  I then got a job at Nordstrom which I am very grateful.  I worked for Nordstrom for about 4 years before entering the United States Navy.  I completed boot camp with flying colors and the United States Navy thought I had too much fun and sent me over to United States Marine Corps Training for combat medicine.  I enjoyed the Green side (USMC) so much that I did 3 tours of duty with the Marines.  My first Marine Corps Unit was 9th Marines HQ and my last unit was 12th Marines HQ.  I traveled through Asia with the Marines and met my future wife in Okinawa, Japan.

I left the Military because I needed to get some wisdom instilled into me. I completed my undergraduate degree at Central Washington University and graduate studies at Oregon Graduate Institute to only find out that I needed to learn more.  I have been married to my wife for 15 years and she puts up with my stupidity.  I have two wonderful children that continue to provide me great happiness.  I love to watch them grow into their skin.

I currently work for Intel Corporation for Components Research.  I am challenged each year to create value for our business group.  I am a jack of all trades with no specialized job code.

I am a true amateur when it comes to this kind of competition. I have enjoyed cycling and tennis in my lifetime.  Running has only been a on and off love affair.  So this will truly be an adventure for my mind and soul.
